Front Sam replacement

Hi all,

just need some help in regards to my front Sam
it is fried (as shown below)

the car comes up with 60 odd electrical faults and Also cuts out

mechanically I have changed all the sensors
crank
cam
map
changed alarm siren and plug as it was fried (fuse 8 was blowing)
changed belts and pulleys

and then noticed this (probably didn’t need to change anything if I seen this first)

the part number is 2115452901 (01) can’t seem to find this anywhere

I can find 2115454301 is this compatible?

or would you guys suggest something else?

its so bad that if I move the wires connecting, the engine would idle rough, move it into another position the fan would turn on/off, move in different position engine would cut.

I’m from Manchester in the UK

thanks in advance for your help

The electronic parts catalog will show you compatible part numbers that should work with your vehicle.
Good luck with it and let us know how it works out.

First and foremost, figure out how water got in and STOP it. Otherwise issue will return soon.

The pix are blurry but looks like lots of surface corrosion. If nothing is actually blown (black or with holes in it) you might be able to do some repairs to that board.

First use vinegar and toothbrush to clear surface corrosion. Bust out a small soldering iron and some Pb solder and touch up any loose or cracked pins. If there are missing pins, get a clear pic, I might be able to give advice on repairing them.

The water was coming as the last person who worked on the car didn’t connect the wiper / washer pipe to the drain, cause my wipers to fail as the water got clogged! Also the same person broke the lid / cover for the front sam so water found its way through. Sorted them now. Currently doing exactly what you said and trying to revive the old one but if not I’ll order a new (used) one with warranty, after doing research the new module number is 2115459101 this superseded all previous numbers. Question is will I have to recode this to my car?

The front SAM operates a number of components of the car. It would be best if you could have it set up so that you can add your car's coding to the replacement SAM at the time you are installing the replacement SAM. Otherwise, your options may not function since the replacement SAM wasn't coded for those options. An independent shop that know and works on MB and has the correct diagnostic tool (preferably MB Star) will be more affordable than going to a main dealer to have the coding done.

Any one of those front SAMs will work with your car. Especially compared to the current SAM in your car...
Get the hard and soft covers for the SAM/ME components.

Update

cleaned up the front Sam and everything looks good there, however I have noticed I have a couple loose pins, especially in terminal 2 and terminal 4

terminal 4 pins with corrosion: 33 & 39
terminal 2 pins loose: 17, 18 & 23 & 24

I have opened and checked the circuit board it looks good

It’s in terminal 2 when I plug this in and move the wires slightly as the pins are loose, it’s is losing connection to the circuit board and cutting engine off

where can I find a diagram to see what these pins refer to?

What’s the best way to go about this?

Read and/or download WIS for your car. Schematics are in it.
Using proper ESD procedures open up the ME and resolder pins and remove corrosion. If unsure of your ability and tools, contact a ME refurb shop and send the ME to them for repair. They can resolder and replace pins as necessary. Thinking on it, I would go with option 2...

yes I’m going with option 2 hopefully they can fix it.

just incase they cannot
can I get a ECU from sl55 / S55 A1131531279
Or later M113k

A1131536079

as they’re the same bosh ME 2.8 and clone it to my ECU

looking online and cannot find the ECU that matches my number and when I do find it they’re like 1000£

Update

Hi guys thought I’d give you an update

front Sam was cleaned

Got the ECU repaired by ATC drivetrain Ltd in the uk. Would highly reccomend these guys if your in the uk. My ECU terminals look brand new and the water damaged circuit board was also fixed. Substantially cheaper than other companies in the UK got my ECU back in 2days!

however….

I am still getting the codes for all 4
o2 sensors
purge valve (I have just put a new one in)
and secondary air (I have put a new switch valve in)

see attached

can you guys give help or do I need to start a new thread?

I would recommend starting a new thread but include a link to this thread in the first post of your new thread.
