Launched soft (loaded converter to 1000-1200 rpm only) to avoid blowing run with wheelspin. Crowded track. Had to make run count, since generally get 1-2 runs per night by the time I get there.

Hey SGC.... AWESOME TIME DUDE!!!
Questions....On the K & N....how many miles do you think you will get before you have to the "oil" thing on them. You ever oil yet...people scaring the hell outta me online "oil them perfect of you are gonna blow itttttt"
Also, on the launch. So just about half throttle to get over start of roll, then hammer it......just trying to get your process on launch. You obviously got it down man. Can you walk us through it one more time in specifics. It would really help us a lot on the strip and at the lights.
Again...

With respect to the K&Ns, I have had them in the car for approximately 4000 miles. In the past, on other vehicles, I would clean and oil the filters every 5000 miles. Never had any engine problems due to oiling the filters in the past. Pretty simple, shouldn't have any trouble.
As to the the launch, this is what I do:
Drive around the water box;
Heat tires with a brief burnout;
ESP off;
Comfort suspension setting;
Sport Mode - Transmission;
Pull to the line;
Load converter to 1200 rpm (probably could go higher);
On last yellow, release brake and push throttle 1/4 of the way down until feel weight transfer and then push to floor; and
Let transmission shift itself.

I don't think the LSD would have helped much as car hooked up pretty well. If anything, a better gear ratio (i.e. low 3.00 series gear) might help.

How much pressure do you run in your drag radials? And have you run the quarter with stock tires? If so what what your time?
One other thing, who offers different rear end ratios for the E55?
Thanks

Regarding the rear end ratio, I haven't looked into the issue.

Thanks.
I figured that the comfort mode would allow the front suspension to lift more on the launch to transfer weight to the rear wheels. Honestly don't know if it does.

I can't remember what setting I kept my E55 in when I ran, but it was probably comfort.

Who knows if front stiffness/softness really made a difference.

In the past, on an older muscle car (i.e. 70 Chevelle SS454), I installed 90/10 shocks in the front suspension. Its my understanding that 90/10 means that the shock will require 90% of the force to compress and only 10% to extend.
90/10 shocks allow the front suspension to rise quickly on the launch; however, the valving in the shock is such that the shock will take a longer time to compress thus allowing the weight to remain transferred to the rear wheels. To keep the rear wheels planted, I used 50/50 shocks on the rear axle with an airbag in the right coil spring to pre-load the suspension. That set up improved my 60' times considerably (from 1.8 to 1.5 - 1.6 on M&H Racemasters). With 90/10s, the car rides like sh*t on the street, since the valving is for drag racing only.
With the sophistication of the Mercedes suspension, the only thing I knew to do was hit the button for comfort, hoping the difference in valving would allow the front to rise and transfer the weight.
Lorenzo can you post your time slip? What was you mph at the 1/8 mile?

You know, one of you E55 owners, need to go and find one of those teenage hot shots in a 11-sec Cobra, and teach them a lesson. I'd do it- but, well, there arn't any 11-secs around here but my SL6, oh well, keep at it.

Have only run into one 11 second cobra (03' with nitrous running an 11.95) and showed him the power of E. Hey came up to me afterwards and said," I saw that 4 door Mercedes and figured this would be easy. Then the light turned green and I said, ""Where the heck is be goin'""."
Other than that, all the cobras around here are in the 12's.
