I was almost out of gas and had to put cheap 91 octane in my 55. My car has been running rough since then. What can I do to clean it out? It runs a little sluggish.

There should be no problem with running 91+ octane pump gasoline.

Smile Don't Worry - Be Happy!

BENZGal - You will not hurt the 55 motor running 91 Octane fuel. The Engine Management System will dial back the advance timing curve to accomodate the lower octane. Kal-E-fornians (per the Govenor) can only get 91 Octane gas, so we have to deal with this all the time, and yes your 55 will feel a little sluggish because the the advance timing curve has been retarded by the Engine Management System. Not to worry, as soon as you run the 91 Octane fuel down to as close to empty as possible just put the 93 Octane fuel, you have been using, in and feel the lost power come back. - Bob

All Mercedes engines are designed to run on 91 octane, there should be absolutely no problems, probably just your mind working in weird ways

I agree...in ole Salt Lake City, we run 91 only...no probs. Now BAD gasoline...that is another question...water, stagnant gas etc....that's a whole different ball game. My rule of thumb is when travelling out of my area, to try to hit stations that have a lot of traffic....almost impossible for owner to tinker with the gas (adding water etc) plus with that much product running through the pumps, not that much chance of contaminants....plus we all know never to get gas while the big truck is refilling the tanks (it stirs up the crap on the bottom of the tanks as they fill). Maybe for your other car it's okay, but never take the chance with the BEAST.

All the best in 05.

I think it was bad gas. I have filled my car up twice since then. It was one of those cheap Thrifty gas stations. I usually use 76 or Chevron. I think my baby hated it. Oh well!

What octane gas do they sell at Chevron over where you live? Premium at Chevron here is 92 and 94 octane.

Max of 91 in Cal. no matter what station you go to. Hey Angie, try a bottle of Slick 50 fuel treatment, seems to work pretty good cleaning out "old" gas.

Thank you Brad. I put something in this weekend that fixed it. My beast is back! I talked to my customer that ownes a gas station and he told me that the additives are different in cheap 91 octane vs. expensive 91 octane.
