12.11 @ 117.49 on Continentals
I went to Moroso last Wednesday (1/12/05) night to watch my brother run his 04 Cobra Convertible. He recently had some modifications performed by Steeda and wanted to see the improvement the mods made(359 rwhp stock -451 rwhp modified: pulley, exhaust, ecu mod and air box) I wasn't planning on running the E55; however, it cost $13 to spectate or $15 to race. As such, I paid $15 dollars and teched the car in case I got the bug to run.
I did absolutely no prep for the track: dry cleaning still hanging in the car, case files in the trunk, 3/4 tank of gas and my stock Continentals which have seen better days. The weather was less than ideal, about 72-75 degrees.
After letting the car sit for about an hour and watching my brother run in the low 12.3's @ 116, I decided to run the E55. I heated the heck out of the Continentals and pulled to the line. When the lights came down, I eased into the throttle. The car hooked pretty good. No wheel spin since I launched off idle. I missed a perfect light by 1/100 of a second and red lighted. The E55 motored down the track without issue. The modified Honda in the lane next to me was a speck in my rearview mirror when I crossed into the traps. I figured it was a 12.30 run due to the warm weather and the soft launch. To my suprise, the time slip read 12.11 @ 117.49. The staging lanes were closed after my run, so that was my only pass of the night.
I will post the time slip later today on dragtimes.com.

Ok enough of this... What is the deal, is it:
a) you have a very fast E55
b) you are an awesome drag racer in this car
c) that track is fast as hell
Congrats on more awesome times!

you should have driven your friends cobra. Was he on stock tires or something? I went 11.7 with his mods and powernumbers. Just curious.
Congrats on the time in the E, its simply a bad *** car!

The Cobra belongs to my brother and was on stock tires. He ran the 12.30 effortlessly. Since his car has been modified, from a roll his car is nose to nose with my Mercedes.
The Cobra is brand new and his wife's daily transportation. For those reasons he did want to bring it home on a flatbed; accordingly, he wasn't beating it like a circus monkey. Also, its a convertible which creates 2 issues: 1) its heavier than a coupe; and 2) if you run faster than 13.99 you need a 6 point cage, which he doesn't want to do. He was able to sneak in two 12 second passes before they told him he was done for the night. The car will run 12.00's at 117. For a convertible with minor mods, I think that is strong.
Believe it or not, there were a lot of modified 03-04 Cobra coupes that night running worse numbers. I think he did the Cobra contingent proud.

Sweet spot every time
Great times on the stock Conti's - ESP on or off?
Love to do some passes there, but Moroso is a bit far - figure it's sea level or close to it
I'm considering arranging a private rental for interested Atlanta area locals - Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds, GA (Atlanta Dragway in Commerce is much closer to Atlanta, but both track preparation and elevation leave much to be desired).
The owner (old acquaintance) has already given me some options and I'll post potential date and details soon. Meanwhile, I need some time to accumulate a bit more break-in mileage: 478 miles and counting.

Thanks.
ESP off. Very soft launch. Did not load converter. Left off idle with 1/8 to 1/4 throttle. As soon as feel weight transfer, push to full throttle.

Definitely a fine line between a good launch and a time robbing smoke show.

I've been a huge SGC fan since he broke into 11's.
That's it...I have to mess around with this "use the force and feel the weight shift" thing before track opens this Spring.....how can you argue with almost 12 flat on Conti's. Mine are probably still spinning in the garage as I type!!!! On behalf of all the other Skywalkers....thanks Yoda.

Just passing along my objective experiences to help the brotherhood. Glad it has been helpful.
(BTW best time 12.00 on drag radials - hoping for 11's)

Great time! Funny that Morosa is still following the rule on convertibles needing a rollbar if they run under 13.9. That is an old NHRA rule that was updated last summer and has been lowered to 11.9 I believe.
