I'm afraid that it will screw up my steering wheel controls. I definelty don't want to lose them in order to change the OEM stuff. However, if I kept the car long enough, I would consider a sub or something like that in my big ole trunk.

W211s are fiber optic audio systems that are more than just stereo units... so you aren't going to be just "swapping" out head units for non-oem ones, unfortunately.

I already researched this quite extensively. It's not even worth considering, unless you want to completely rip everything out and still you lose a lot of overall functionality with the car by not having an OEM headunit.

So... what Marcus said.

Thanks Marcus for the response, is it possible to hook up an amp to the OEM head unit? Maybe change all the speakers in the car with focal components? I really haven't done a lot of research about it and i'd appreciate it very much if you could tell me what would be the best audio option for the 211??? And yes, i have an Obsidian Black 05 e55 which is currently in the shop now for the MKB kit... Thanks...TJ

TJ,

Unfortunately you have limited options.

You can add a woofer and an amp. That is what I was going to do and some others have already done so. As for changing speakers, fiber optic is not just a type of cable but also an interface - therefore you can't just swap speakers, you have to rewire as well since there are no fiber optic speakers available aftermarket. I am not sure if this is possible with an OEM headunit or not.
