The kind real men use.

I think 93, might be 91 but I doubt it.

It sucks. $1.999 for a gallon, on any car I take

Bob,

Don't put anything but Sunoco 94 in it. It runs the best with the higher octane fuel. It will run sluggish with less octane.

I don't stop at a gas station unless it is a Sunoco.

I haven't seen 94 octane gas station in California. If anyone does, let me know. I'm in Southern Cali.

You can't get anything higher than 91 in So. Cal. under the state's emissions regulations. I remember Sunoco from back East in Jersey. You have to love 94 octane. Plus, in So. Cal., 91 is selling for $2.40 a gallon today. Yikes.

Just a word of warning. We have certain pumps (only a few in the city) that are allowed to sell 100 octane race gas. Thought I would give her a try....guess that was just a tick too much for the beast, even chipped out (ecu). Almost could not get er started the next day....ran like a monster when going though, just wouldn't start cold.

Just some input in case you ever get frisky and put the hard stuff in to test.

Sounds Odd? I fill her up once a month with 100 Octane race gas from Sunoco and never had a problem.

I really do feel for you guys. I dont know what I would do if there was no Sunoco 94. If I was in your position, I would probably get a bunch of guys together and buy a drum of the 94 octane fuel and store it somewhere. Talk to your local performance shop and see if they would be willing to work something out.

Freakin' $2.49.90/gal 91 octane crap. If we have to pay $2.50 a gallon here in Ca. at least let us have 93!!

Real Cars
Guys,

Everyone seems to immediately buy into the mentality that 100 octane will yield more power, and I just don't think that's going to be true given the tune of our engines. The standard rule for octane is run the LEAST amount possible without preignition. Our cars run so rich on the top end (to deal with the heat) it kills pretty much any hope of higher octane benefitting us.

The car may advance timing a bit due to the lack of knock but with a stock tune I really don't think 100 octane is worthwhile.

Is there better Performance with 100 Octane Fuel?

Yes, in a single word. However, it all depends on the Engine management's timing advance and fuel curve program. With the OEM program it would be highly unlikely that it would have enough timing built into the program to take full advantage of the additional octane (for us California Guys that would be 9 Octane points More!). I would say that 94 Octane fuel would be able to take care of all the timing available in an OEM program, after that you are wasting money. Now, turn up the boost and add some timing, remap the fuel curve, and get rid of some more heat and you will be in the low 11s if you have enough tire. - Bob

The method of calculating octane differs in Europe from the US. I don't think that the numbers can be correlated.

Here in Orlando, Florida, regular is 87, mid grade is 89 and premium is 93. Don't know if it differs in other cities depending on smog regulations. The current price for regular is about $1.91, mid grade is about $2.01 and I just paid $2.11 a gallon for premium yesterday.

Your English is better than my German.

Here Vegas many of the Unocal 76 stations carry 100 octane, to bad it's around $4.50 a gallon last time I looked. So looks like I will be using 91.
