Question HID on W211 E55 Fog light

I have 2004 E55 with bi-xeon swivel head light. I tried to install HID on fog light (9006). It only works when the engine is off. When the engine is on, a message "to check fog log" will pop up; the fog light will not be on.

I've asked my dealer. They told me that the unit I bought was "plug and play." In order for it to work, I'll need to install a "resistant." Can anyone tell me what that is and how do I go about getting it?

Is anyone aware of how to resolve this issue???

I've answered this so many times; here goes one more lol. You cannot install any aftermarket HID systems period into the w211. I still have the ballasts and everything mounted for my fogs and have tried everything. When the car is off, even with the key in and the power on the HID ballasts will ignite and work properly but not with the ignition. It searches for that voltage and mb just dosent accept it which causes the lights to strobe or not come on at all. Ive tried using resistors and every other trick in the book, we ever tried with the star diag machine to check the current and no go. Here's something interesting that did work on my car though, if you start the HID fogs first, they turn on, then you start your engine with them already on they should stay on. This was way too annoying for me, plus I never would know if they had shut off in the middle of driving or started to strobe annoying people so I just disconected them and called it a day. I wish someone would have a answer to this as everyhting is alrady wired in my car, I just need to plug in the bulbs.

I tried the inline resistors and nothing would work. The only way I was able to get them to work was the following:
Once connected
1>Turn off engine
2>Turn on lights
3>Turn on fogs
4>Start engine
This would usually work; however just way too annoying.
Any other way it basically flickered like a strobe and would get the warning light. It seems the computer in the w211 is EXTREMELY picky about the voltage.

Tesla
The Hoen xenon match H11 bulb would make the fogs match your headlight. Won't be as bright as true Xenon but looks just as good.

I have done this in my M5...In order not to have any faults you need to put resistants, Xenon bulb use way less voltage so computer will thinkthere is a prblem with your bulbs...

Do it it will look so Nice but make sure your Bulbs are the same as your main Xenon beam so they match...

All: For the 2005 E55 the foglites are H11 bulbs-I personally confirmed this with the parts manager at our dealership in ann arbor, MI. One of the HID vendors told me that you have to re-flash the 'chip" after doing this mod. Im no tech guy but the reason you have to do this is cuz' its the only way to get the computer to recognize the 'alien' lites as native?? Someone who knows what they are talking about please advise the many who would like to do this mod but dont want error messages in our beautiful beasts-

They will draw the same voltage, just draw a lot less load/amps, hence the right resistor fools the computer into thinking it's drawing the right load, just gotta get the right resistor.

All work done by the guys down at HMS here in socal. No resistors needed. DIRECT plug and play.

6000K HID low beams...

8000K HID fogs...

Together...The city lights are actually white in real life. Came out yellow in pics...

You could also install LED fog lights and they will work with a resistor no problem.

Yep it can be done. It was done on my car with just a bypass relay to the auto switch in the dash. It was done however that they could never be turned off, maybe someone could figure that part out with a dash mounted or under dash mounted switch I actually took all the wiring out and just re-wired them to be used as regular fogs again. I always felt like an azz driving through the neighborhood lighting it up like I was searching for high school kids that just got busted drinking at a party.

read again is 10 years old..
What did I write to begin with?
Please read before answering..

PS Whats the point of starting new threads? Other than it gives you a TON of answers for questions users are looking for, that is why I post and open and old thread, there is absolutely no point in starting new threads other than is living hell to find the answers users are looking for, but I guess you knew that being member since 2008 right...
sorry how it sounds but is no other way to answer you.

And hey already did look since I knew I get answer like this already..
MB World really is what they say it has become so sad to see..

The factory bulbs are H7 BUT Mercedes uses a plastic adaptor to adapt the H7 to a 9006. If you are replacing your fog lights with hid xenons you need 9006. I had them in my E55.
