Question: 20 inch wheels

It looks like I'm rollin' with 20" HRE. The guy told me if I wanted a 4 inch deep lip in the rear, this is the spec. You guys think it will rub? thanks

20 x 9 (2 inch lip) tire size: 255/30/20
20 x 11 (4 inch lip) tire size: 295-25-20

Originally I wanted it 20 x 8.5 front and 20 x 10 rear until he told me to go with 11 (width), I'm just afraid it might rub against the fender. Cheers!

I am going through the same configuration right now on my car but with 19" wheels.

We are trying to confirm if an 11" wide rear wheel will fit under the fender. I'll let you know as soon as I get confirmation.

you might be a little gun shy @ 20's unless you absolutely have to have the LOOK (i like it too) i bent my 547's on a channel cut into the road while i was on the squishiest susp setting. $250 later and more importantly, 2.5 weeks later, i got them back.

You HAVE to EXTENSIVELY roll the fender.

^^That is what I was thinking...I don't think a 20x11 will fit in the back with a 295 tire. I heard people having a hard time with 285's...couldn't imagine 295's...

Well, the wheel manufacturer that I am going with has all the measurements now so I'll find out real soon if it is going to work..

I'll let you know.

Doing the SP500... 19x9, 19x10.

Not sure of the finish yet. Trying to decide between the Black Chrome or the Brushed Nickel finish.

I got a no-go on the 11" wide rear. John said the car tapers off too much in the rear and too much wheel would be under the fender as it tapers and could lead to scraping of the tire.

Also, the most lip he could get out of the SP500 on the E55 is 2.5 - 3.0" n the rear and 1.5" in the front because of the narrow spokes. He told me if I went with a more "mesh" style wheel he could put 4 - 4.5" on there.

what about a 19x10.5 on the rears? what do u think is the max on the SP505A's? what are the max tiresize we can get away with on the front and rears? Would 255x35x19 and 285x30x19 work?

I dont think John is comfortable doing anything more than 10" on the rear because he thinks it might stick out a bit too much... I am going to chat with him about it again and see what we can get away with.

He says we can do 255 front, 295 rear (he is going to try for the 295 and if it scrapes, we will go to 285.)

The SP505 & SP500 are both thin 5spoke wheels. Because there isnt very much material left on the inner wheel, he is afraid to make anything bigger than a 2.5" lip on the rear. He said if you were to use a "mesh" style wheel like the SP16 or SP18 he could probably do a 4" lip.

I'll let you guys know if anything changes.

Also, I should have some picture samples of the new plating options he has. Will have samples of black chrome and brushed nickel finish.

x10R is the max you can go unless you use air suspension, then you can use x10.5 and x11, but I think it's not worth.

x10 will still rub with 4" LIP Cut the fenders instead of rolling it, it might save you. If it still rubs, then prepare to use air suspension ($4K+ )

Good luck man Pls show picture after it's done, I am kind of anxious to see

Thanks Vrus,
I'm just going to stick with 20x8.5 front and 20x10 rear.

WTF? I dont really think i would take the chance to fit an 11" back there. I can easily fit a 4" lip on the rear of a 211 E55 on a 9.5! and i have sold that setup to people on this board before and it does not rub. If you wanted a 10 i can fit a 4" lip on their also. The only reason to go 10 is if you want a wider tire back there?

I honestly would not buy wheels from the place you are getting them from if this guy is saying you need an 11" wheels to fit a 4" lip. (Although, we are one of the very few places that have the specs to fit that size lip in a narrower wheel).

That's what I'm saying. The sales rep told me to go with 10 in the rear, then when I called back ready to drop a deposit, the owner got on the phone and told me he has an E55 with 20 x 11 rear, strongly insist I should go with the same set up if I wanted a 4 inch lip, he would give me a killer deal. Before that I just got off the phone with HRE and the tech told me to go with 10 if i don't want to roll in the fenders or rubbing. This wheel company is pretty known in Miami too (anonymous), I'm just going to order the set somewhere else.

Are you saying you can make a set of HRE 545 or 547 10" rear rims with a 4" lip? Wow! I have seen this before on mesh style wheels (ADR, and others) but never on a thin 5 spoke design.

Do you have any pics of these wheels?

Yes, Any HRE i can fit a 4" lip on the rear of the E55. If you didn't wanan go 10" Like i said I can still fit the 4" on the 9.5. I actually sold a set of 20" 547Rs to a forum member here with the 4" lip on the rear. I hope he sees this and posts pics of it.

But here is a set of 545R with a 4" rear lip.

Looks awesome with a big lip, but from the angle of the picture it almost looks like the edge of the rim is level with the fender and he is running a slightly smaller tire to keep the tread under the fenderwell.
