My MB dealer said the new 19" AMG S and CL rims do not fit on my 2005 E55. However, my tuner is going to retrofit the wheels to make it work. Here are the wheels that will be going on my black/black E55 next month. What do you think? I will post pics when completed.

Wow! Those rims are HOT! I think they are going to look outstanding, especially on a black E55. I was thinking of the same wheels for my car.

Where did you get them? What kind of tires are you going to put on them?

AMG does make a 19" rim that fits our E55's that is the same look as the 65's. The only difference is that it is not gunmetal which can paint if you want that look. I have them on my E55 for the past 8 months.

Enjoy

I wonder why your dealer would even sell you the S, CL 65 wheels. Instead, they should sell you the SL65 wheels which is going to be a DIRECT BOLT ON to your car, there is NO modification needed.

So there is an offset ready SL/CL 65 wheel for the E55? I was under the impression that you needed hub machining to get the wheel to be hubcentric?

No, the offset of the SL65 wheel is not correct for the E55.

It will fit but it is not correct. The wheels will be spaced too far outside of the wheel well.

I remember someone a while ago on this board when the E55 first came out that posted pictures with this set up and you could see that it was not correct.

No modification needed does not mean they are correct.

Harris,

I ask the same question. Why would the parts dept. of any MB dealership sell anyone something that clearly will NOT fit???????

Harris,

You mean the new S65 (due out later this year) wheels should fit Not the SL65 and CL65 which donot fit our E55's.

Anybody know what these wheels will weigh?? I am considering these myself but dont want to put some 30+ pounders on my car. Unsprung weight is huge to me and I know AMG wheels have always been on the heavy side.

I am going with the PS2's. I will let you know the damage to my wallet once I get the final quote, but I am estimating about $7K for rims, PS2's and install.

I would find it pretty amazing if these wheels weighed under 30lbs.

You are going to have vibrations issues with the wheels of your tuner has them modified to fit. I had a set of wheels that were the incorrect offset for my Corvette modified to fit. There were no problems until I went over 55mph, after the vibrations were horrible.
Id just buy the TSW look alikes for $1000 and have them painted..

Vetluver: no. It is actually not a good idea to chrome AMG wheels.

Vic55: yes, there is an offset ready of the 65 wheels for the E - use the SL ones. These wheels weigh around 40lbs.

Schiznick: the SL65 gun-metal wheels have an offset (19x8.5 ET30/19x9.5 ET31) than the same 19" multi-piece wheel (19x8.5 ET25/19x10 ET28) offer as an option for the SL55. These wheels will fit onto a E55 perfectly.

MBH: the S65 and CL65 shares the same version (offset) of the gun-metal 19" multi-piece wheel. The SL65 have a different offset made specifically for the car (which can be fitted on a E as well).

Rev It Up: perhaps you should get the ones made for the SL65 and fit them onto your E. It will save you a lot of hassle and time. You tuner does not know what they are doing/selling.

Harris,

You are right on. My mistake. I checked with my tuner and he is using the new SL65 wheels. Thanks for the further clarification/correction. I will post pics when I get them on. Can't wait.

Harris,

Thanks a bunch for clearing the air on this. WOW I had no idea a SL65 wheel and tire would fit our E55's. Is this the case for the front and rear wheels of the 65?

You are very welcome.

Just one more clarification: the SL65 wheels (yes, front and rear) would fit on a E55, NOT the tires! You need to get different tire sizes for the E55.
