Your worst nightmare...
E55 for $16,000 on ebay do you believe it?

Guys do you believe this non-sense, he was selling his E55 for 16,000 US dollars. I e-mailed the guy to see if it was true and this is what he wrote back. Please advise, this may be a scam.

"Hello there,

Thank you for your interest in my car I want you to know that I closed
my auction earlier because someone has offered me the buy it now price,
but didn't have all the money available and I cannot accept financing
because time is a real issue for me. The price I want to obtain for it is
16,000 US$(this price includes shippment and insurance charges).
We recently opened a small business in Greece and we moved here. We
found out that we cannot register the car here, because it is an US model
and Europe regulations are different from the US ones. Also we didn't pay
yet the duties for bringing it here and if we sell it back to US there will
be no more duties to be paid. Now we have our money stuck with this
vehicle, so the low price is for a fast cash deal.
The car is like new, completely working, low miles, 2004 model. It was
always been garage kept. It is an US model with US specs and passed the
US test emissions. It will be shipped via air freigth with Lufthansa Air
Cargo to the nearest international airport from your area and from there with
ground freigth to your door.
The title is clear and clean and you will register it in your state. I
will send the car as a gift or donation for you, so you won't have to pay
any additional taxes. It will come with all the papers (warranty, insurance
etc....).
The shipping costs and the insurance taxes of the package will be down
to me and you will pay the fees for transferring the money (about 5% of the
total amount).
I am requesting a $7,000 US refundable deposit prior shipping and the
balance to be paid after delivery and inspection. If you are not 100%
content with the car , you will ship it back on my expense to get your
deposit back. I am sure this will not happen, because it is a state of
the art vehicle and you will have no reason not to be content with it.
This is a large purchase and I would like to use a third party for this
transaction as I want a smooth and safe transaction. We will use Square
Trade, I have completed a lot of successful deals using them. I have a
purchase protection account of $17,000 US with them. If this is your
first time using Square Trade here are their terms: if you will not receive
the CAR exactly as advertised or you won't receive it in 15 days since you
made the deposit, Square Trade will refund you from my Square Trade account.

If you agree with these terms, please send me your full name, eBay ID,
home and shipping address so I can register the transaction with Square
Trade asap.

Regards,
Paul

This is the same old, "I'm out of the country, so send me eleventy-billion dollars" scam. Please disregard this "Paul" character. If you get involved, be prepared to lose a lot of money (well, at least the $7,000 deposit).

2005 E55
I find this very hard to believe. It could be a similiar scam to the Ethiopian car sales deal that was going around a while back. If he pays the air freight and fees, then he is left with about $9K for a 2004 E55. What is wrong with this picture?

Please. It would be a better story if he had asked for $60,000 instead of the $16,000. You know this is a scam.

I had a guy from Moscow trying to do that to me. I kept going back and forth with the guy just to mess with him since I knew it was a scam. After around a month, I told the guy that I purchased the same car cheaper in for $5,000 cheaper in Yemin.

This same guy tried the same bit 2 months ago. Since I was Greece at the time, I checked out the address. There was no car on the premises.

Yeah...as a matter of fact, tell him that you are going to travel to Greece in a week. Say that when you get there, you will take care of all shipping and handling, and you will also pay him not $16,000, but $20,000 for his generosity. Obviously, its an offer that no legitimate seller could refuse. If he humbly welcomes you to come see the car -

a car
So many horror stories about how they've ruined lifes of many individuals. I remember reading one story where a Dr. was going to purchase an E39 M5, because his wife was expecting a child. Say a very slightly used M5 going for $40K.

Unfortunately, the US can't do anything regarding the situation since it isn't on US territory. I've had friends play jokes on them however. Build the scammers up that they're going to send a product, but instead they mail them a brick or some *****.

You can definetly tell it's a scam, especially due to the poor grammar. Almost every word is spelled incorrectly.

I guess nobody really considers the actual cost of shipping a 4000-lb item, taking up an entire 20-foot mini-container by air freight. Short of military transport, it just doesn't happen. You'd need a special plane.

These scam artists do it with everything so be careful. A good rule of thumb is obiviously "if it sounds to good to be true." A friend recently told me he won a set of wheels on E-bay for $500 but the seller in Europe wanted him to Western Union the cash. These wheels were easily over $4K in value.
I told him "No Way" do not send him that money. The tires alone are worth $300 each. He wants to "Take a chance..." Oh boy, He's getting screwed!!

Of course it is a scam. You want to hear a funny E-bay story though? My CPA was telling me his wifes best friend bought a baby on E-bay!!! The crazy part is it was legit. She took $25k in cash to Russia gave it to a man and he gave her a baby and she flew back. Nobody stopped her going there and nobody stopped her comming back. She only got questioned when she tried to get the baby a SSN. He told me this about 2 years ago and I actually saw the kid about a month ago. She did this in 2003. I have always been curious though, how do you list a baby for sale?

Czech doctor who killed Nigerian consul remanded in custody

A 72-year-old Czech doctor has been remanded in custody on charges of murder after shooting dead a senior diplomat at the Nigerian embassy in Prague on Wednesday. Police say Dr Jiri Pasovsky, who apparently lost his life savings in an oil-investment scam, has confessed to shooting dead Nigerian consul Michael Lekara Wayid. Reports say Dr Pasovsky had borrowed millions of crowns from banks and friends since falling victim to the Nigerian investment scam in the mid 1990s. Thousands of letters and emails have been sent around the world in recent years, seeking funds for bogus African investment deals.
