Update on my Kleemann surgery at headquarters

Spent a few hours with the guys Friday AM and just cannot say enough about them. They had a bunch of projects going on, but took lots of time to show me around and make me feel right at home. Then they look at me and say those famous words "Well, wanna throw er on the Dyno and see what she'll do?" Of course I yell out Y E S!!!

Okay here is what we found out. First off...GidEup...you are one lucky S O B.

His Benz pulled 517 at the crank friggin stock. The guys still just could not believe it. I wanna know who the hell built his motor and request that German builder on my next Benz. Anyway, we run mine with K & N and Speedtuning Chip on and the best we could pull was around 496. They could not figure out why it was not pulling more, than we discovered that to be safe Speedtuning just blasts the car with fuel. I was running super rich and it was killing my H P. This is how cool these guys are. They wanted to see what the Kleeman chip would do without pulleys. They told me they don't normally do this but they really were curious. They take it in the shop and solder and flash it again and we through it on the dyno. All of us are watching...then the numbers pop up. B A M....510-516 HP. Remember, this is with their chip and K & N's. Man, Gid's motor is friggin strong. Still, I hate to say it, but ya get what you pay for. The Speedtuning Chip was nice, but the numbers don't lie. Kleemann's smoked it hands down.

Anyway, I was like my wife in Ann Taylor. I couldn't resist more shopping, when they offered me an SL65 rear end that had some Kleemann tweaks added to it, jumped on it. Should give me killer lockup when I need it, but a bit more streetable. They had it ready for another guy, who just backed out and I lucked out. They are working on getting the intercooler mod in to see if we can try it out on my Beast. If so, I will post up some new numbers next weekend when I get it back. So in the end, we are going Kleemann stage 2, SL65 rearend, and hopefully intercooler mod.

Please don't ask for real wheel info...I just don't have it. They gave me a percentage to reduce for rear wheel. I will ask them again when I see them again.

Now (drum roll) some dyno vid for ya.

*******The screen says Kilometers per hour, but trust me, it's MPH. I watched the speedo and screen matched identical...heh heh..til we pegged the speedo. Yes that's my Drad Radials pulling 190mph. I think we cooked um...but it was worth it. Someone asked me to side by side the headers and stock exhaust so I did the best I could. The stock ones are from a different model, but the guys told me they are basically the same size as ours outlet size wise. One last thing....they told me to put on ear protection and I chuckled. Holy Crap...when she runs up to 190mph, he noise checked it at 110db. Thanks pretty friggin loud, wow.

2005 Kleemann Stage 3 E55
YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!! What an awesome report. Video is killer. 190 mph on drag radials.

Everytime I see headers vs. the stock manifolds I wonder what crazy engineer designed those things. Night and day. Ying and yang. Felix and Oscar. Explains why the header gains are so big.

Keep us posted. Nice work. Have fun.

Thats a rear axle from SL 65 with Salisbury style LSD, modded with Kleemann internals so it locks up faster and harder.

Nice write up, can't wait for some real world numbers at the track, should be fun. :p

Those headers do look nice. Does anyone make long tube headers for the E55?

GidEup: Just wondering, how did you run-in your car from new? Are you the kind who just gases it from new or drive carefully under 4k rpms for the first 1000 miles? I'm trying to establish if there's a relationship between the breaking in of the engine and the power it ends up producing - as many cars that get trashed from new seem to be more powerful than other cars.

By the way Jakpro1, how much was the SL65 rear end with the Kleeman mods?

If you can read the signature, who built your engine GidEUp?

Good idea, xraymd. Does anyone know how many builders there are? Just curious to see if there are noticeable qualities in the engines of certain builders.

Great video, Jakpro.

The design on those headers are absolutely incredible compared to the stocks ones. Amazing! Can't wait for the wheel numbers. How much was the whole package/kit costing you if you don't mind me asking or pm me.

thanks

Stage 2 running around 6795

SL65 Rear with mods was 4500 (I heard around 3000 for stock AMG E55 LSD alone with 30% lockup from other guys) It was the only one they had and wanted to move it. Not sure about price on getting another one built by them (just right place right time maybe)

Oh yeah, got word that we are going to have to go PS2's on the rear after all. One too many 190 dyno runs made drag rad's begin to separate. I am going to run it once at the track with the PS'2s...we'll see what happens.

Not sure about intercooler mod...still up in the air. Will know more soon.

Labor just a few hundred dollars total for everything.

Picking it up next Friday and hammering back to Salt Lake overnight. Mountain roads/640 miles/600+hp/and PS'2s all way around. This is gonna be sweet.

"break it in like you drive it" was what I was always told and what I did.

I agree 100%!! That's exactly what I do also. I break it in using my normal driving style. I haven't dyno'd mine yet, but I can tell it is a real strong motor. I suspect it will be on the upper end of the scale.

I'll check my name plate on the car and see who my engine builder was.

Update on read end *********

Just heard from Kleemann guys (this was the first time they were gonna try a SL65 rear install into a 55. Looks like it would have been more modding then we thought. Half shafts totally different.

No biggee...just going to go regular Kleemann LSD....A H H H ...what might have been.

I wanted to post the info as soon as possible, in case some some are already hunting around for SL65 rears.
