Couple Pics & short article on all-new upcoming M5....anyone have the scans of the wh
Below I put in the only good 4 pics and short articles I could find so far....
P.S. - So far this is what I've heard as true: 578 Horsepower bi-turbo 4.4 liter M V-8 Direct Injection, dual-clutch transmission, possibly KERS system or maybe not initially, maybe 4-wheel steering, carbon fiber and aluminum parts to save more weight... pretty cool stuff indeed..... E63's can apparently hit 60 MPH in 4.1 seconds all day long so this car should be lighter and with more power and faster transmission it should easily be in the 3's.....tuners are gonna have a field day with this thing....Now it's Benz's turn to fight back with their upcoming bi-turbo DI V-8 with dual-clutch trans coming in 2012..... BMW has just effectively continued the horsepower wars so this isn't over yet for atleast several more years.... good for the consumers though...

Here is a link at M5board devoted to the F10 M5...

Interesting..... can't wait to see the magazine test drive comparisons when they're both available to drive....
But lets hold out final judgement till all the magazines give it and the upcoming bi-turbo E63 2 years from now a head to head comparison together..... I think Benz is gonna go for atleast 580 or 590... or maybe low 600's in the Horsepower area in order to stay decisively ahead... torque will for sure be a good bit more than what the M5 will have because thats how AMG works in the torque department......
I predict in a road test the bi-turbo E63 will be slightly faster down the straights and have a smoother more comfortable ride and slightly more aggressive looks and exhaust sounds but the M5 will have better road feel, steering feel and handling in the twisties...... either car will be way too fast for public roads anyways though....

As much as I love my E63 for the exceptional comfort ride and great linear n/a motor, I want to go back to really pushing a car on a road track and in the mountain twisties. But still have a large enough 4-door DD.
I don't care if the new TT AMG will pump out more torque or hp. I want that BMW feel again. And now that it's no longer a Bangle-ized looking POS, it makes it all so much better.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
SL65AMG: True, it'll be interesting to see who comes out on top. Realistically, no way is one gonna dust the other, these cars are getting so exceptional at performing that it's gonna be coming down to preference over most all other factors IMO. However, BMW really seems to have put emphasis in confidently expressing that the new F10, and it's M5 version will once again dominate in their fields, obviously driving dynamics being amongst the top of that list.
We'll see what happens. I don't think I'm going M5 route, but as of the moment, I'm planning on having an F10 in the future!

After all it's a mid-sized sedan and we want those luxuries but with real performance. That's the whole point. There are plenty of cars out there to choose from that aren't 'refined' if that's what one prefers. And we can always buy an old hand built E34 for old school rawness. Anyway if people want raw they shouldn't be in a heavy, mid-sized 4 door sedan, imho.
In respect to the future W212 E63s and F10 M5s, both will have the performance but the M5 wins, imho, for the BMW chassis and driving feel and also (I'm willing to bet) more available mods and much better aftermarket pricing. AMG is still Mercedes and more people out there see the M more as the performance car, imho. Unless AMG does some heavy duty marketing to change that perception. But it's still a Benz....
For the record, even the E60 M5 is coming up super close (if not about equal to) the brand new W212 E63 in Comparo's, and the old E60 5-Series is STILL winning lots of Mag Review comparo's against the brand new W212, some by long shots, mostly due to driving dynamics, etc. No doubt the F10 will be the benchmark in both normal guise (that goes without saying), and the M5.

I'm speaking of the regular versions here FYI. E63 seems to have topped the M5 in any comparo's I've seen, albeit all seem to be stressing that it's by no means a blow-out.
But which one wins in the real world everyday driving and ownership? If I lived in Nurburg next door to Nurburgring, maybe it might matter which car is the fastest around the track. But I don't and I would never use a F10 M5 or a W212 E63 as a car for the track anyway. Too expensive to risk track rash and insurance doesn't cover track time, plus too heavy a car as it is.
What's on paper is one thing, but I think the deciding factor is which car will actually be more fun to drive both on city streets and in the back road twistys and to live with every day.

love it...
love it...Yeah, no doubt they'll be.
Yeah, I definitely can't remember ever hearing that anyone prefers the E60 M5 over the 212 E63, seems most Reviewers give the E63 a smidge of a victory.
It was really the E350 and E550 that had lost to the E60 competition in a few Comparo's that I remember. C&D I know was one of them I recall.

I find the E60 M5 to be quite an involving drive, in a good way. Short of actually having a clutch pedal, I find it equally as involved, in the sense that I'm always mindful of which gear I'm in and anticipating curves/turns and what gear to downshift/upshift to. I like the fact that I can bounce off the rev-limiter without the engine automatically upshifting the car for me.
I guess I like having that combination of "rawness" and having a medium sized 4 door sedan as well.
But I also find that as I'm getting older, I'm appreciating the "plushness" of a car more and more.
The w212 E63 (and MBs in general) is definitely more plush/lux than the Bimmer counterpart. And the new generation of AMG seems to have improved dramatically in the handling department as well.
So CURRENTLY, I do not see any high performance 4 door sedan that is better than the E63, that combines luxury and performance (arguably maybe the Panamera).
But will have to see what happens when the F10 M5 comes out...
