Actual performance of 2010 E63 AMG?

Hello everyone,

I have just received my 2010 E63 AMG earlier this month, and soon after I hit 1000 km's I had a few straight line races with some friends.. and I must say the results werent very satisfying, absolutely contrary to what I had expected. Bear in mind those all happened between 1000' kms and 1500 kms on the odo.

Firstly, tried racing a Carrera S PDK. He beat me from around 40 km/h all the way up to 180 km/h. He just kept pulling away slightly through this whole time.

2010 Audi RS6, managed to keep up with him up to around 90 km/h, then ever so slightly he started pulling ahead.

Audi R8 V10.. but lets not go there.

Jag XF SV8 or whatever its called, the 500+ hp one.. managed to pull away from this one.

2009 CL63 AMG.. our performance was identical. Neither of us could shake the other off all the way up to 170 km/h.

In all honesty, my biggest surprise was the C2S PDK. I was really expecting to chew him up and spit him out at speeds higher than around 80 or 90 km/h, but that just didnt happen, he just kept pulling ahead further and further. Keep in mind all those cars were stock.

Now my question is, will my car's performance improve as the mileage on it increases? I know that my old car, a 08 Carrera S, got quite a bit quicker at around the 7k-9k km's mark.. would it be the same with this E63? Or is this all im ever gonna get out of it?

Thanks for the input fellas! If you have any similiar experiences please do share them here too!

burn thru a few quarts of oil first and the car should get stronger. 6000 miles on my car and i was dyno'ed @ 330hp then at 27,000 miles it was dynoing @ 408 .

Carrera S shouldve gotten smoked by u , I recently raced one on the highway and from 80-140mph i just kept pulling farther and farther away but i also have some mods . Now a turbo is another story .

Any Carrera S from before '09 will get smoked,at any speed.
Be careful with the '09 S PDK though, that car when in Sport+ mode is really going to surprise you.....

With the 997.1, I agree. Barring driver error, the E63 will smoke it.

However, with the 997.2 C2S with PDK, it's not such an absolute.

The regular NON-S 997 C2 is just as quick in a straight line as an E92 M3 with DCT. Pretty amazing, considering the published numbers.

Give it some time, the 6.2 opens up over time.

I've been wondering how many miles (or kilometers) do the AMG engines have when they are dynoed and rated from the factory? If it only has a few hundred miles and the dyno shows low numbers don't they think something is wrong because the factory-fresh 6.2 isn't putting out the purported HP?

I just got 2010 E63 and absolutely love it. But it is interesting to know how long does it take to fully break in the car -- meaning having it in the peak shape.

I heard after 3-4K miles, some say close to 8K miles. Any ideas?
also, I hear that deleting charcoal filters does not really do much since the ECU will adjust automatically. I heard that it only improves throttle response. I had mine removed but frankly I can not notice any difference. In fact I am thinking putting mine back.

Also, does the sneaky ECU reset work on the 2010 E63? Anyone tried?

This past weekend I had a run with my buddy's 09 C63 with AMG performance and it was pretty much dead heat. It is interesting since http://www.fastestlaps.com/compariso...s_E63_AMG.html actually favors C63 in a straight line race.
So I don't know: is it too slow for E63, as expected or better than expected? It is hard to figure out, some say E63 should be faster, some C63 should be. The link definitely favors C63 over E63. I only have 1500miles on the car.

The Carrera S with PDK can break 60 in under 4 seconds when launch control is activated thus enabling the vehicle to beat the E63, especially an E63 with 1500km on it. You have to remember the weight of the Carrera aswell, its only a 3200lb vehicle, which obviously means the performance is going to be great. Don't feel down about it, its in the numbers.

The E63s do take some time to settle in.... I felt a noticeable difference after 9,000 miles. Re-do the race after you put some more miles.

you will need atleast 5k miles...

I raced my neighbor who leased a E63 with my 2004 S55 I am selling.....his car has 6700 miles on it now...

First time we raced he had only 2k miles.....I was a good 3-4 cars on him from a 20 mph roll.....

Last week we raced and I was almost 2 cars ahead 3-4 races...from a 10 mph roll...and dead even on a dead start race...we both slipped a little

My car is stock with 131k miles.....I am selling it for $18k that is why he wanted to race again.......he couldnt believe I took him in a 131k car with less hp.....he now wants to trade it in on a 2008 S65...lol

The 2010 E63's aren't that much faster than the previous generation...I felt that my old E55 felt faster. But thats probably why a new 5.5 TT is coming out to replace the 63's...!

Have an '09 997.2 'S' w/ PDK and I will tell u compared to my '07 E63 (previuos generation) the 911 S pdk is faster stock for stock. The tranny shifts lightning fast and is roughly 2-3 tenths quicker in the 1320.
