Fortunately, my wife and I are both equally excited by the color combo now that we have the car - which is a surprise. Here are a couple more pictures in the light of day.

BBell, I like the color combo that you have coming in. The steel grey is really a cool, sophisticated and sinister color that can look different depending on the light. I think you will be very happy with the car. It really is a great combination of luxury and performance. I can't wait to see pictures!! When is your car due to arrive?

I have been thinking about an extra set of rims as well for snow tires. I think our choices are very limited because of the unique rim offset for the W212 E63. The owners manual basically lists rim sizes for snow tires as exactly the same as come on the car now - either the 18s or the 19s. I have a call into the dealer to see what their "wheel specialist" can come up with. So far, I think my choices would be a second set of the existing 18" AMG wheels that I currently have - although that will likely be prohibitively expensive. The other option would be to order a set of Forgestar F14 wheels in the 18" size because you can customize the offset to fit exactly. One downside there would be that you have to use different bolts for the rims (from what I have read from other posts). They would likely be much less expensive that the 18" AMG wheels. I was thinking about posting to see if any current owners who are swapping out their 18" wheels for 19s or 20s would want to sell them as I would be interested in buying.
Did you happen to be on Walton and Rush street on New Years Eve?

Was having a cigarette on the balcony of my room at the Elysian and saw the exact same car and took a picture...

Just curious - we live in a small world

Must be as I was on Rush Street on New Year's Eve. Wow - I am impressed with your ability to spot a car like this from the balcony of a hotel. That IS pretty cool in the small world category . . .

I like to think I have a skill (that is of absolutely no monetary value) of being able to spot cars that I am interested in from any direction (like parked on the other side of the road or going the opposite way on the highway). You have clearly outdone me on this one. If your car were parked on the street that night, I would have noticed it - particularly a 2011 with the new sport wheel style (vs the 2010s) but I am guessing it wasn't as I don't recall seeing it.

How are you enjoying your new E350 4matic Sport? That is a great all weather sports sedan for this climate. Have you posted any photos anywhere on this board as of yet?

Kind regards

The seats in my e55(two tone grey and black) are more comfortable than the ones in my new e550. I don't understand why Mercedes doesn't offer more plush seats. I guess it fulfills their need to keep a "driving machine" image as opposed to the luxury sedan image. I noticed that your e63 has adjustable airmatic shocks in the rear but not the front. Do the front shocks adjust ride as well? DO you drive the e63 in snow at all? All in all it sounds like the new e63's are pretty civilized given the adjustable suspension, an every day ride except for snowy days. Regards. Ned.
You have to get some pictures up as I would love to see your car. I am a fan (in the minority) of the lighter color interior like yours. I agree that the seats are definitely not soft or plush. They are firm on the E63 and similarly firm on the W212 E550 I have driven. I presume all of the shocks adjust for ride quality - but don't know for sure. I have snow tires but have not mounted them yet (long story). So I try to avoid snowy days for the time being. With snows, I should be fine.

Kind regards

LOL - thanks! My eye is always on the look-out for MB's... here is the link to the only picture I have taken of it (dirty, I know) https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ng-e-club.html

In response, no, you wouldn't have seen it as it was inside the garage at the hotel unless you went to MK for dinner (was parked up front)...

Other than that was just out to a few bars with the Fiance and was back in the room by 130..

Amazing to think that I am talking to the person who's car I saw randomly more than a week ago!

Cheers and Happy New Year!

and of course, enjoy driving "the beast"

You definitely need to post more photos of your car when you get the chance. It looks sharp and I like the Elbrus wheels. I presume they are 18s . . . and not 19s . .

BTW, sounds like you planned a great night for New Year's Eve with your fiance, with dinner at MK and a stay at the Elysian. Nice work.

Happy New Year to you as well.

Kind regards

New 2011 e63 amg owner

Thanks for the post. I just bought an E63 AMG myself and went through a similar decision process, I also considered the new Infiniti M series.

I live in Toronto, Canada and had it delivered in November. Considering the 1500km break in period and now we're in the middle of winter I haven't been able to drive it very much. I do have the full winter tire set, but my biggest concern is the slush and salt.

I also intend to keep this car for a long time and want to keep it in good condition. Is there anyone out there with advice for rust proofing? We usually get undercoating for our other vehicles and this is the first time we've bought a Mercedes.

E63 Driver:

Congrats on your purchase! What color combo do you go with? I was in Toronto in late October and spotted a black W212 E63 with the 19s heading down University Ave towards Union Station. I presume that was not your car as your purchase was more recent . . .

And by "full winter tire set", do you mean a duplicate set of wheels from Mercedes or an after market set? If aftermarket, what did you go with?

As with you, I plan to keep this car for a long time, so upkeep during the winter is important but challenging. I just try to make sure to have the car washed (with the undercarrage wash) more frequently in the winter months to get as much of the salt off as possible. Also, I think it is important to check for paint chips and cover those with touch up paint as that is where the oxidization of the metal can get started over time.

Kind regards,

Kind regards,
I have driven my car downtown at the excat location you are talking about, but not until Mid November onwards. My car is obsidian black with almond interior. There's a black 2010 e63 with black interior driving around downtown that parks in the same building as I do (RBC centre across from Union station) - possibly that was the one you saw on University Avenue. That also may have been the one I test drove in the summer, the owner of that vehicle got a deal for making it available before he picked it up. The only noticeable difference in the 2011 is the red calipers.

I puchased the 18" rims from the Mercedes dealer with Pirelli winter tires (the summer all performance tires are 19" and mine are Continental).

I drove it around North of Toronto today, but the roads are still full of salt so I'll just have to get it washed regulary - I didn't buy it so that it could be a museum piece. Someone told me not to get the wash underneath because it pushes the salt in deeper, I don't buy this story and I think I'll follow your advice.

Cheers

WWMIndy:

Thanks for posting those additional photos of your car. That is a very sharp, sinister looking ride - black on black with the tinted windows and Elbrus polished/black painted rims. I like it a lot.

It looks like you have the Pirelli snow tires mounted on your Elbrus wheels. Do you keep the rims and swap the tires for summer or use a different set of wheels for summer?

Yes - we got a fair bit of snow - around 16 inches where I live. This was a great test of the E63 with snow tires driving into the city today after they finally plowed my street. I had to be careful but overall no problems. Just goes to show you what a good set of snow tires will do for a rear wheel drive car . . .

Safe driving in Indy - the ice is definitely more dangerous than the snow . . .

Kind regards,

Kind regards,
Wish I could have been in Chi for the storm! Seems like a once in a lifetime opportunity...of course, in the 7 years that I lived there, the most I saw was 12 inches...I always prayed for such a storm (if you can't tell already, I love snow)

To answer your question, I have two sets of these rims, and I keep summer/winter tires mounted on each respective set...makes it a lot easier when the seasons change, I can actually switch them myself as a result.

Furthermore, it really bothers me to keep taking tires off of rims and putting them back on repeatedly...somehow I fear that sidewall degradation
will become an issue...not sure whether or not that is reality, but I like to think that I have a good plan!

Hope all is well,

CAP
