Im 50/50 on tinted tails- it depends on the theme and how it looks. With my 997TT (see sig) its all red and black and since the car is red, the tails look good in black. But with my white E55- I dont like the tails tinted...I like the red LED's and the contrast against the white. I have my calipers painted white with red brembo stickers and my HRE's have the red and white logo so I am keeping my tails red.
Just my preference- others will vary.

I like smoked tail lights on white cars, but like Vic said it depends on the theme, especially what kind of wheels you go with. My wheels are painted black (the spokes), but if you are gonna go with a different setup I might not go smoked. It can make a car look really bad *** or really cheap IMO... just depends on how it's done.

I've got mine tinted. I love the look, as long as it's clean, and as long as the tint is a "cherry" (light tint) color.
White with Pano, tinted windows, and just an overall clean and uncluttered look will look good with tints IMO. Like what was said above, there's a fine line between that, or ghetto/cheap/cheesy.
These aren't very fancy pics, but here are some recent ones of my car::
And on the way back from Vegas, filthy from dried up rain.

I am not a fan of tinted tails. I love the red LED contrast on the white! it breaks up all the white and black.

personally, the tinted red, and keeping the clear, clear, just looks terrible. everyone goes so dark when the tint. keep it lighter and even all the way through.

To me, that looks terribly aftermarket on the F10, and 90's "Altezza" past-fad.
I can't believe Bimmer would do that as OEM.
I've always hated clear rear lights though. Subjectively I'm down with the smoked look on some cars, otherwise, a nice OEM light unit always prevails over an aftermarket look.

I'm not a fan of blacked out tails myself unless a portion of them is painted w/ actual paint while still retaining the areas that keep it functional (like G35's w/ GT-R taillight overlays/paint jobs).
What about something like this? Tinted clear piece, and light smoke on the red.

I saw a black W212 today, and we all (should) know that black looks horrible with tinted tails (unless one goes for the allllll black look), however it had just the white reverse lights tinted, and actually looked really good and sinister. If I had black, I'd go that route.

They actually look okay in the catalog, but not in that pic in the post.
That spoiler in that pic def looks like aftermarket. It's way different than the OEM one in the catalog.

I can't remember actually exactly where for some reason as I was all over the place, I know it was in the L.A area though.

I was going to do the headlights, but they need to be cut open, so I'm saving that for next time.
