Big thumbs up on durability of Designo Magno Matte Paint!!!

Last week I was driving north on the 51 in somewhat heavy traffic. I was in the express lane with several cars to my right when a tire tread separated from the right rear tire off of a large truck directly in front of me. The tread was about 5 feet long and with cars directly to my right and a divider to my left there was nothing I could do but absorb the impact of the flailing tread @ 70 mph.

The tread walloped my front end, then went under my car and cleaned off my rear valence trim piece. Impact was so strong that I thought I had also lost a good portion of my front bumper.

After pulling off the freeway to inspect the damage, I feared the worst. Fortunately, there was no damage to my front bumper, with the exception of cosmetic damage from tire tread to my paint and the now missing rear valence trim piece. I called my insurance company to report a claim and a field claims rep was inspecting the car the next day. Estimate: $1200.00.

I took the car in to my dealership for repair and the service tech brought out a MB approved product and simply wiped off what had appeared to be serious paint damage. Cost of repair to front bumper $0.00

Rear valence trim piece ordered, painted and replaced.

Long story short, the MB Designo Magno Paint is bullet proof awesome stuff. If anyone is considering ordering it for their 2012's don't think twice. I absolutely love this product. Durable is an understatement!!!

Glad to hear your paint is still in top notch condition. I am actually very impressed at how strong/durable the standard paint on Mercedes is.

Funny you say that... Last time I went to Willow Springs Track, some clown in front of me went off track and sprayed rock everywhere! The front of my car got splashed, & I thought the damage would be terrible..... To my surprise, nothing!! Only windshield had a small crack

not MB
so... do you guys think the matte paint is more durable than regular paint?
or would a coat of regular mb paint have held up just as well?

No doubt it will. Post was made only to address early questions regarding the durability of the Designo Matte Paints.

Good to hear. The non-black Matte paint from M-B look great to me. I'd love a White one. I hope they continue to prove to be very durable, although the jury is still out on whether they can look good for, say, 20+ years like traditional paint can.

The coolest thing about the Matte Paint to me is how you don't have to Wax or Polish/Detail it, just wipe it down with soap and/or water. Would make my life MUCH easier.

Answering my own post now. Debadging my two-day-old magno cashmere E550 went perfectly. No different than gloss paint.

MB already said that their matte paints are very strong and they are hard to be scrached or affected.

i went to the dealer and saw the paint and touched it. it really feels diffrent than old matte cars and it is like a thick material.

I would like to start by saying, im really glad that your ok and there were no injuries, or worse fatalities, during this scary experience.

Secondly, i would like to point out to my fellow /////AMG brethren that these cars we drive are some of the best engineered cars in the world and you would be surprised at how durable they are...

Drive safe out there guys!!

But not too safe because thats boring
