E63 Wagon - impressions after break-in

I've done about 1,800km in my new wagon so she's just about broken in. I'm delighted with the car. The engine is loosening up nicely and feels strong everywhere but the sound is the best feature - a bassy idle and deep down low, and then a strong tenor sound as the revs rise. I drove 200km in the rain yesterday and barely used the stereo - the engine provides the music.

For give and take roads, my favourite setting is Sport Plus on the trans, and Sport on the suspension. The car feels smaller than what it is with beautifully taut responses which makes it easy to place on narrow roads. Tightening up the seat around you heightens the sense that you "wear" the car, rather than just sitting in it. My car has the PP and LSD - the latter gives a great sense of confidence on wet roads.

I'm loving it!

Can't see the picture somehow.

Yes, nothing beats the engine sound for pure music in the ear. I have heard the sound is better in the wagon since the sound resonants better through the trunk.

Yeah, gotta love that LSD...wish I have one.

If you look at the dynos, combined with the gearing and software, there's no way that the car won't experience wheel-spin in 1-3 depending on tires & conditions. LSD will mitigate the spin in certain conditions, but won't eliminate it.

The real question - has anyone been able to completely and fully turn off all of the traction control, yaw sensors, etc. in order to really pitch the car sideways? I suspect it can hold a controlled drift pretty well if the gearbox doesn't get in the way.

does anyone know if theres any further way to adjust the width of these seats side bolsters? i find that even on the widest setting, there still too narrow, and makes me feel constricted.

They are quite narrow seats - and too narrow for some I agree. I can't see any way of widening them beyond the usual range of adjustment.

The seats in the M5 are wider and better suited to broader hips I've noticed.

All you can really do is turn off the active seat part and let your body form fit them over a period of time.

but at the same time, i fit so perfectly in the e60 m5. but these bolsters are so tight, it makes you feel that much heavier when cornering, cause all your weight is forced against that bolster...

Yes its quite easy. Hold down the ESP button for about 2 seconds and the stability control will turn off. Many argue that the control systems are still not fully off, because they aren't, but the truth is you really don't need them to be. I've experienced that in this setting you can drift as long as you want and it wont interupt you. And yes a 550 HP car hold a slide pretty well

Good to know. So in Ferrari nomenclature, would this be equivalent to Sport, Race or full CST off?

I hope with that kind of torque and such crappy tires that it should be able to hold a good bit of throttle steering
