Ducati Diavel AMG arrived!

Hi guys,

Finally after almost 3 month (2 month to source and almost 1 month waiting) my Ducati AMG has arrived. I was away at a show, and the dealer sent me a message that the bike is on it's way to the dealership. Today when I got back back to town, I went straight to the dealer to check it out. What a beautiful bike. I'm very excited. Tomorrow I'm picking her up. The AMG plaque reads #239. I will post pictures when I get a chance to take some. Does anyone know how many they ended up building before they got bought by Audi, or even what the initial limited production number would have been, hadn't Mercedes cancelled the relationship? Tried finding out, but the dealer couldn't tell me, and I can't find it anywhere on the net...

Congrats bro!!

Mine arrived last week as well. #194
Just need to secure that one through paperwork but I'm currently depolyed overseas and the paperwork will take 3-4 weeks to get here.

Nope, I also can't seem to get an answer on what the initial limited production number was..

*You'll notice that it arrives with the standard exhaust on and the AMG sport exhaust is shipped in a seperate box because it doesn't meet US standards. I can't wait to hear it!!*

Congrats to you as well. Yeah, i noticed it right away when I came to pick it up after it got PDI'd. The exhaust looked different. Than the dealer told me that it got shipped with two exhausts and ECU's. Told me that it needs to be broken in with the stock exhaust (1,000 km) and than they would switch it to the AMG one.

Thanks. I haven't driven it yet. Picked it up on Friday, didn't have time to license it yet. Was busy on the weekend with a project. Took it down on my street, but that was about it. Haven't had a chance to get a feel for the handling yet.

Thanks for sharing your pics Joyride! Looks Beastly!

My dealer will install the AMG exhaust and ECU before I pick it up. They told me to drive it in the Urban riding mode, which lowers horsepower to 100 and features the highest DTC setting, and to keep it under 5000 RPM's for the first 625 miles as per the manual for break-in. After that, to let her rip!!

Here is what my dealer emailed me today:

I have some information to pass along about the production numbers. In Chicago I spoke to one of the Ducati district managers and he said that there were fewer than 500 made globally. He didn't have the exact number but he was very clear that production ceased as soon as the agreement with Audi was signed and that the final number was under 500 for the planet. There are less than 100 in the US so I would speculate that there are about 10 in Canada.

Not sure how accurate that is, thought I'd share...

Sorry, don't have pictures of them lit up. Got to take some pictures. But I certainly like the tails...I think they compliment my colour just great. Flows very well. I was hesitant in the beginning, now they grew on me.

Awesome info! Thanks for sharing that!

So you could have the 1 out of 10 in Canada!

I read an interesting article by Matthew Miles in Cycle World posted on June 4, 2012 which stated that Mercedes-Benz USA was under the impression that the Diavel AMG will not be produced due to Audi’s recent purchase of Ducati.

Questions about the status of the special-edition 1198cc V-Twin power-cruiser were raised earlier this year when AMG’s parent company, Mercedes-Benz, released the following statement: “Since the end of 2010, a successful marketing cooperation has existed between AMG and Ducati. The company takeover by a rival car manufacturer has understandably resulted in the end of any further collaboration. The takeover of Ducati was never our aim—our focus lies clearly in developing and producing premium performance cars, and we will be concentrating all our energy on this.”

I asked Christian Bokich, department manager, product & technology communications at Mercedes-Benz USA, if the aforementioned statement meant the Diavel AMG will not be produced. “Correct,” he replied.

But Ducati says otherwise. “The Diavel AMG has been produced,” confirmed Tim Collins, public-relations manager at Ducati North America, “and we will start deliveries in mid-to-late June.”

For US$27K+++, it is incredible Duc actually let a bike looking like that out of the factory.

An MV Agusta that absolutely is not. Certainly the best way to enjoy the bike is to rip the AMG bling off, mount those on the wall, and part out the motorcycle.

Joyride, do you have any plans for mods?

At first I wasn't going to touch it, it being a special edition and all. But I now have a few mods in mind. My first mod will definitely be getting rid of those "Red" rear indicators/brake lights and installing the clear Euro Style lights. They not only match the front clear turning markers, but they make the rear look so much better!

production numbers

My dealer was told by Ducati Rep that production stopped at 263. I picked up my no. 193 yesterday and put 56 miles on it. My son then rode it while I followed on a 1098R, He could do the bike justice, as I'm an older guy trying very hard to protect what time I have left. The Bike has the AMG exhaust installed, and is set in the Urban mode. It handles very well, plenty of power and for me very comfortable, except for poor design of right footpeg and exhaust location. Right foot sort of hangs off the peg, you can't put foot back because it hits exhaust shield. Otherwise an awesome bike.
