New Owner Introduction w/pics

Hello!

I just bought a CPO 2010 AMG E63 a couple of weeks ago. Prev. auto was a 2006 BMW M5 w/ SMG, Corsa exhaust, ESS ECU Tune/Programmer, Eibach springs, tint and K40 built in radar/laser front/back system.

So far I've had the windows tinted and the car detailed by Bryan at Peach State Detail in Atlanta (check all the photos in his post on the detailing forum here).

I have the smoked turn signals to replace the ugly amber units and an AMG flat hood emblem to replace the raised star. I just need to find some time to install them. Another K-40 radar/laser system was installed last week by Kevin at International Motor Sports in Atlanta. Considering the sport star grill but will wait to see on that.

I need to do a search and see what people are doing for mods on the N/A 6.2L E63. I was going to order a 2013 5.5L TT but decided to get the cleanest lowest mileage N/A E63 instead for a lot of reasons. I've owned (2) Audi RS6 (4.2L TT) in the past and while easy to boost to 530HP+ with a mild tune (Revo in my case) I really liked the N/A 5.0L V10 in the M5.. just more responsive and fun to drive. I test drove the new F10 M5 with a V8 TT recently and it was OK but not as viceral as the E60 V10 for sure. The W212 with N/A V8 seems to be a good compromise between the E60 M5 and the TT cars so I went for it. I may still order a 2013 in a few months but delivery is late December/early Jan 2013 and so far I am enjoying that exhaust... oh that exhaust!!

Anyway, wanted to introduce myself and will be visiting often.

you were in almost the exact ame situation i was in.

had a 2008 m5 lightly modded. and was considering first, an f10 m5 (but they werent out at the time) then a c63, then a 6.3 E63, and then ended up with the 2012 cls63.

part of me wishes i went the route you did.

while the cls is probably the best looking of all these mentioned from the outside, its kindof hard to enjoy the exterior while youre driving. and the f10 m5's interior absolutely crucifies both the e63 and cls63 interiors, IMO.

interesting you found the m5 to be just ok...

sounds like you had the same issues with the f10i have with the 5.5 TT cls; just not responsive enough, not raw enough... too mushy, too muted of a driving experience.

nothing yet has ever matched the driving experience of the e60 m5. i remember the gear changes in s6. absolute savagery.

congratulatons on the 6.3L E63.

how do you find it compares to the m5 (E60) ?

It was our pleasure to take your AMGs paint to the highest level.

Welcome and Congrats on the new car, its awesome. I can see removing the star from the hood, but not a big fan of the star grill. I had one, but it just made my car look like a c class, so I removed it for a matte black stock grill.. Stock grill without the star on the hood looks trick, IMO. Vinly wrapping the chrome trim around the windows always adds a nice touch also. Good luck with all your future mods.

FF. W212 E63 M156 non-pano 18" P2 ParkT NightV (gone but will be missed).
Good choice, esp with the CPO!

By the way, what are the specs? I see there is pano, no Distronics... Are you getting the extended warranty?

I really like the low-end torque for sure. Available so much lower and sooner in the rev range vs. 4K+ on the M5. Not as "hard core" as the M5 with steering being much lighter and way too light at highway speeds however I'll be "letting" my wife drive this one sometimes so it is easier to drive than SMG, etc. The E63 straight line feels much faster and gets there with much less drama (S6... you know!!) Overally the package is easier and softer vs. the M5 which is really a supercar in a sedan package. The E63 feels more like some old muscle cars I have owned ('71 Torina 429 CobraJet comes to mind). Still the seats are better and the ride is also a little bit better (I had Eibachs however). I LOVE LOVE LOVE the deep throaty rumble of the exhaust on the E63. The M5 with Corsa was also nice but sounded like pure poo poo on cold starts and I hated the double VANOs tick at idle from the motor - sounded like a diesel engine. Idrive was also poop. So, M5 for much more of a fun rev the snot racer and E63 for a more balanced package. My friends are all making fun of me since they know I'm a BMW/Audi/Porsche guy so I tell 'em I did just turn 40 after all! Still, I just also bought a 2012 Jeep Wrangler 6 speed as a little fun-mobile to zip around town so maybe I'm not that old after all?

Yeah, after checking out some photos here on the board I think I'll pass on the sport grill. I do like the look with a flat hood emblem however. My wife had the big star grill on her R500 and it looked nice however that was a land-yacht of a car so it looked correct.

Yep - Pano - wish it didn't have it actually. It squeaks and creaks on uneven surfaces (driveway at an angle for instance) like the Pano roof that my wife had on her R500. Drives me nuts. I like the all black glass look from the exterior however.

I have everything else I think.. Rear folding seats, Keyless Go, power trunk, 19" AMG sport wheels (don't think carbon brakes were an option in 2010)? Heated and Air Con seats, rear airbags, heated rear seats, rear power sunshade. Don't have heated steering wheel.. which is fine I live in HOTLanta.

No distronics - just the back-up camera.

CPO covers the car under warranty until 2016. I won't keep it that long so no extended warranty purchased.

i dont get the "better low end torque" than the e650 m5 thing.. to me 4500 rpm comes on so quickly, you never have a problem with torque if youre in 1st gear. of course it has to be in 1st or 2nd, but if youre in 3rd or 4th, theres no torque in the 5.5 tt either... so its quite misleading and a bit of a hoax if you asked me. both the e60 m5 AND the new 5.5 TT engines need to be in a low gear for me to appreciate any "torque".

and in the case of the e60, its brutal, neck snapping torque , even if its only 383 ftlb vs 590 in the 5.5 amg.

I also have this color in my W212. Do you have any pics of the smoked turn signals? I am deciding between 1. tinting the amber stock ones. 2.replacing with white ones like one member already did here 3.tinting the white ones. Congrats on your incredible ride.

Hey - yeah here are some photos. Sorry I have not been on this site very much (any car site). Busy, blah, blah, blah LOL. Mods: Window tint, K-40 radar front/rear and laser front/rear, AMG flat hood badge, smoked front turn signals/reflectors, large star front grill... oh yeah and a set of new rear tires (already!). This is not my DD but I do try to drive it a least a few times a month.

Hey - wow! Sorry for the late reply. Yes - I really like it a lot actually. I know I sound surprised as it is a GMC after all.

My wife now drives it full time since we sold her R500. I trade with her on days I need it for business travel. I have 2 kids and they love the captain's seats in the back and my wife drives carpool with some other kids. Lots of room in the 3rd row. Most of the clients I drive around with are tall, fat or fat and tall so they are much happier in the Acadia than the Maxima I was driveing for business. Only complaint is that the front passenger's seat is not height adjustable like the driver's seat. I have had it 2 years now and my wife and I have already decided to get another one at the end of this year. Same color and everything. I get 20MPG in any driving condition which is good for a 7 passenger with more interior space than a Tahoe/Yukon. The Denali package on the Acadia is the way to go IMHO. Thought I had a photo of it somewhere but can't find it. Will take another one and post it soon.

Thank you for the reply. On the picture it almost looks like you color painted the side markers. You are saying then that when you smoked the OEM orange ones that is how it looks? I do like that look.

More interior room than a Yukon?

The thing I like about my Denali is I can fit 3 full size car seats across the middle rather than have to use the third row. Leaves room for double strollers which r huge.

I don't I can get three across a gl or arcadia

Actually these are smoked signals I bought off eBay. They happen to match the color of the paint. They turn amber when the lights turn on but stay gray/smoked when the lights are off. A bit of a PIA to install (I paid someone to do it) but worth the effort I think.
