But S65 has the V12. And we all know how we feel about the smoothness and music that comes with a V12.

Surprising, seemed like the S had it til about halfway. Almost as if he lifted? Maybe it's the aero, the S is a brick. S65 is still a materially better car. CLS has an awful ride and is miserable in the back when being driven.

The CLS driver had a terrible launch otherwise thats a massacre. Yes the S65 is a much better luxury car. What is clear is the new TT motor makes the two cars closer and for 100k less? Not sure an S65 is worth 100k more

Really? In that case you're right - the new powertrain is much faster.
You're right that it's apples and battleships - two very different cars at different price-points. I just never understood the marketing on the CLS.

Most engaging sports car ever built. Macca is close but not as raw (but an impossibly better package - arguably the most complete car ever). Zonda is kind of there too, but in a very different way. There will always be something better, faster, etc. but nothing will ever give you the same feeling. Racecars on the road are just miserable and all the new stuff is too soft and boring and easy. Noble M600 is the spiritual successor and feels great, but it's just not the same. Can't wait to drive it on US roads to really compare.
A good friend in the UK recently made the mistake of loaning two cars (MP4 and F40) to EVO for a comparison. Paraphrasing him; he said that no matter what else he buys or drives, nothing else will ever give him that same feeling that the F40 does - and it still gives him that feeling years later. I couldn't agree more.
Vintage cars have a very visceral appeal that modern cars simply can't equate. All the stats in the world don't mean anything - the driving experience is what matters. Why do 0-60 times get noticed? Because they correlate to an accelerative force. But for all of us non-professional racers, a car that feels fast and engaging is much more useful than one that actually is some fraction faster. Try having fun driving at 65 in a modern car - you can't. Something old and zany? No problem. That said, for creature comforts in everyday applications, old cars don't stand a chance. Surely you can relate with your stable.
