2010 E63 or tuned 2013 E550 what's faster?

This is a question. I am hearing of companies getting 500hpand 580 tq with a $1500 tune? It has AWD also? Does this mean that a new E550 is faster than a non turbo 518hp e63?

FF. W212 E63 M156 non-pano 18" P2 ParkT NightV (gone but will be missed).
Obviously anything tuned to nearly the same or more hp/tq is going to be faster. Of course, such a route is the way to go if all one cares about is the straight line and nothing else such as braking, steering, and the entire driving dynamics.

And slap on the AMG badge on the back and it will be good for another 100-200hp as we all know.

With a tune the newer 550s put down close to 600 tq at the crank, which is far greater than the NA 63 motor

Id like to see the tuned 550 hp and tq curves laid over an E63... lets talk apples to apples and discuss sweet spot power in hp and tq.... peak hp and tq on benzes is rarely used.

THANK YOU!!

Everyone always talks about peak numbers but it's what's under the curve that counts. I'd like to see they dyno numbers of both as well.

yes nicky that's the dilemma i am in now. 2010 e63 certified 20k miles black/black ash for 58k payments around 825 and own it or lease anew e550 for 769 per month and have to return it. a big caveat is that i would have to purchase an old jeep or something for the snow days. My gut is telling me AMG all the way.

Not always true but my thoughts are take the used version of the premium model over the new version of a lesser car. This is dependant on engine upgrades, technology, options, colors, miles, condition, age of used, etc....

good point Vic!. I mean the car was 96k new for a reason. It's one of the most sought after supersedans in the world. I feel as if I get in the AMG everday I will smile. If I get in the E550 everyday I will regret not having the AMG when one swiftly passes me by. exept in the snow of course lol

Yes, there is more to compared with AMG cars than just the time to get from point A to B.

Don't worry, with the 4matic in the refreshed E63, you can have everything.

I guess you need to drive them both (if not done so) and see what your gut tells you since the pocket book is taking a relatively equal hit.

I have an 11' 550(wish it was the new tt motor) and I love it, but if I were you, I would definitely go for the E63 for the price. Don't forget that you are getting a crazy brake settup, trick suspension, and one of the coolest sounding NA engines ever made by MB. There are so many features the amg cars have that the non amg cars don't have, not just the HP/TQ. Either way, good luck with your choice.

Porsche 911 Turbo S 2014! E63S 14, Audi S8 13, CLS63 12, E550 12, C63 09, all tuned
Well,
I think I may be the only one that owns both a E63 2010 Renntech stage 2 tune and a E550 4 matic with a Renntech tune with 255/285 wheels. The 63 is a sports car, 550 is a luxury car. Which one is faster? The E550 tuned 530hp 606 TQ @ 4100 rpm is definitely faster than a stock E63 and even the stage 2 tuned to 571 HP, 523TQ @5100 rpm. Which one would I prefer to drive? E63.

Any other questions? ( by the way, I am a snowbird, that's why I own both)

One other thing. M156 vs M157, hands down M157

Karl great feedback. Thank you. Well if I could afford it I would choose both but I cannot. I am a chiropractor not a plastic surgeon lol. Well with the potholes, rain, and snow in the Boston area would you recommend the e550 since like you say is more luxury? Our roads are awful. If I were back in Phoenix I would grab the e63 for sure.

The E 550 4 matic with a tune from Renntech $2700, will be a great choice.
I live in Cleveland area, and the roads are third world too.
The car is a true Stealth rocket car with the tune, and 4 wheel drive also.
I am putting on the OE 245 tires on Friday for the winter.
I let you know how they feel, since I never drove the car with them on.

well i drove the e550 with the OE 245 they let me take the car for the weekend. I was off to NY and even though they ok'd the drive i felt bad putting the miles on. she was smooth and fast stock so I cant imagine the tune on her. I am use to 4wd as I tend to like to go faster even in the rain on ocassion. the only issue i have is investing 2700 into a leased vehicle although I have done it before lol

There you have it... factual ownership. Faster isnt always better and I second that all day.

I have had/have 2 M156's and 2 M157's. The M157 is the faster, easier tunable engine but.... the M156 is the bulletproof (to me), no turbo lag, great sounding, big displacement machine. My C63 Black overwhelms me daily with its blips, sound, and overall enjoyment. Now my M156 in the E63 (2010) didnt do it for me as much but it still was a great car. The Black Series has raised the bar for AMG IMHO.

So since they gave me 1.9% I have decided to go with the e63 even though I have not driven it. Payments are equal to a leased e550. I am excited to pick her up Tuesday although if there is frankenstorm coming I will wait til Thursday. Pics will be posted. Thank you for your help mbworld.

I would have leased the 550, then bought it after the lease ended
