Any recommended radar detectors?
Hey guys,
Im trying to choose between ESCORT redline, valentine 1, and whichever ones you recommend. Looking at the reviews, there doesn't seem to be a unanimous decision on which one of these two are better.
What kind are you guys using?
Josh

i also chose the V1. part of the reason i like it is because it is easily wired into the OBD2 port without any visible wires. turns on and off with the car, and becomes silent when the car is traveling below 35mph (adjustable). the arrows are nice information as well.
don't over-think this one. it's a high-quality product that works.

Both are great detectors but the V1's bogey counter and directional arrows made it an easier decision for me at least. Certainly helps with situational awareness once the alarm is sounded.
Having said that, I'd probably give the slight edge to the Escort's artificial intelligence and update capabilities. Comes down to personal preference as to what's more beneficial.

been using escort for 10 yrs, paid for itself the first week.
redline is what i use now, best range and undetectable
9500 is nice too, gps based lock outs, and escort live is becoming comon in some areas
there are a few radar forums with mass info

You spent enough on the car, get a built-in radar detector. I have the escort 9500ci with GPS false alarm protection. Dash mounted detectors need to be installed, removed, hidden. How many times do you get into the car and forget to mount it? And if you do get pulled over (you were paced, instant on), do you really want to greet the officer at your window with a very conspicuous radar detector on your dash?
The escort 9500ci has GPS so it recognizes false alarms on my route and blocks them. So if my detector goes off with a K or KA alarm, I know it is almost always a police radar. When I had my V1, I would look at flashing lights and hear assorted beeps and crunching noises for almost the entirety of my commute. Both to work and from work. Every day. I almost got used to ignoring it - is it the usual shopping center blitz of noise and light, or is there a cop in the lot today? And calls were almost impossible from the car.
I still own a V1, but installed Escorts in my truck and my wife's truck. Well worth it, IMO
