My wife summed up AMG vs. E550 perfectly today..

My wife summed up AMG vs. E550 perfectly today..
My wife and I went to our local MB dealer to check out the 2012 E550 because neither of us had seen one. I'm considering either a 2010 E63 or 2012 E550 because we are expecting a child so the SL has to go. The salesman said he was a "gear head like me" and kept praising the practicality of the E550 versus the E63 being a toy. I agree, the 2012 E550 is an awesome car, and it is more practical with it being a new car, still under warranty, better gas mileage, cheaper to fix, and I do love the M157. However, as we were driving home in the SL I punched it under a bridge and of course the exhaust got quite loud. She said "you just like pushing your pedals and making lots of noise." That's AMG...

She is right, nyt You have trained here well as not many would call an e550 practical, an e220 would be practical. Once you have something exotic, all else seems boring.

So I guess it's an E550 for you next, right?!

Gosh, it must be hard having to go back to the bland stuff once you got a taste of the spicy kind.

E55, SL63, ML550
The E550 has the 278 engine, not the AMG 157.
Still a brute though.

dont forget after less than a year the E class will be facelifted and changed from inside.

your car price E550 will drop alot.

i would say go for 2010 E63 and use it atleast till the W213 E class arrives.

Good point. My fault on that one. I'm obviously leaning towards the 2010 E63 bc I like "lots of noise"

That's my plan as well: to use it until the W213 E AMG arrives. I would rather have the current exterior based on what I have seen for the regular facelifted E.

Yes, that M156's sound is just amazing. That means the audio system only gets used at constant highway cruising speed.
