Buying a used E63 AMG

LJM, you've made blanket statements that dealerships cannot be trusted...
Erin is the finance manager at a Mercedes dealer in Northern Cal.
Perhaps the issue is with your *specific* dealership and not the group in its entirety?
Many people trust their dealers. Especially on the service side of the house.
I live in a market with 6-8 dealers. I trust exactly one of them. It's up to the consumer to do the research on which ones are fair on the sales side and good on the service side. Even with that terrible ratio, I wouldn't say that all MB dealers are not to be trusted. Find a good one. Stick with them.

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
The key is all dealers work on different markups, a lot of dealers feel they can take a bigger markup on the extended warrantee as their customers have money and will just pay it, other customers check around and get the best price and that's the reason why Erin is so busy, it sometimes takes a while to get a hold of her as she is up to ears with customers. Obviously that dealer works on the sell more, pay less lower markup theory, every dealer is different. She did give great service though and really knows everything there is to know about extended warrantees.

First let's be clear Erin handles herself as a complete professional. There was no BS, she did what she said she could do and cleared up some misinformation that my dealer gave me. That is why I recommend her every chance I get.
Your experience with the dealerships in your area proves my point. Don't trust any dealership until they have earned it. I know there are good dealerships out there and good people working at bad dealerships it's just hard finding them. If you find one put the word out so people in your area know where to go.

What price they put on their product is up to them, I don't have a problem with that. I do have a problem with them lying to you to sell that product or telling you have to buy something you don't need.

Of all the Mercedes sales professionals I've dealt with, the one who I feel the most confident in his abilities and his honesty is Michael Mueller, the Internet director at Mercedes-Benz of Delray Beach in Florida. He's fantastic and he's the first place that I go to for my Mercedes needs.
Honestly, in my search for my 2015 E63 S contacted many many Mercedes dealers and was profoundly disappointed in the sales experience as compared with what I've experienced with a lifetime of dealings with BMW dealers. On average I found the Mercedes dealers significantly less responsive and flexible than the BMW dealers. Most of them did not return my phone calls or emails even though they were very serious inquiries. I have never had that experience with most BMW dealers. I almost felt that most Mercedes dealers behaved as if they were doing me a favor by selling me an AMG E63 S.
I felt lucky that I eventually found Mike and found him not through my own deal but through the 2014 E350 I leased for my mother a few months ago. He was way out of state but so so worth talking to and doing business with.

Has anyone here had to deal with MB 'corporate' about an exception to get an ELW?
Apparently i'm screwed for ELW despite 24k mi on a 2012 and still under factory warranty. Erin was very informative and "trying to do everything she could to get me a great deal" but she said the MB system said "NO" for offering an ELW and she said the four times she's called MB for an exception (for other people) they have been denied and that MB apparently doesn't budge. I'm going to try and call MB today/tomorrow as the ELW would give me some peace of mind but looking at the bigger picture, i suppose that since i'm still under factory warranty i have some time to think about it (~20 months).

What is the reason they are giving for not approving the ELW? Sounds like maybe it was sold used as a certified car or something?

Erin said that it's most likely because, I bought the car from a BMW dealer and not an MB Dealer but she then added that even if I had bought from an MB Dealer that dealer would have had to spend ~$2k to CPO the car to make it ELW eligible and sometimes dealer's don't bother. Oddly enough, the Carfax on this car shows it was CPO'd at 10k mi. at an MB dealer before it was sold at that time - i mentioned this to her and she said unfortunately MB looks at the last owner to determine eligibility (in my case BMW). I'm a dog with a bone and going to plead my case to MB in NJ.

That makes no sense that because it was bought from a BMW dealer it is not eligible? I think the real problem was the car was CPO'd during it's lifetime and that therefore makes it not eligible. I would think though the CPO warrantee would transfer to you? No?

Oh, ok I think I see what happened, I was just reading another thread https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...arranties.html Only in a private sale is the CPO warrantee transferred, if sold by another dealer, in your case the BMW dealer, the CPO warrantee is cancelled and since your car was CPO at one time it is not eligible for the ELW. It almost seems not fair, but I guess those are the rules. If you had bought car from a private party it would still have the CPO warrantee on it.

Thx '2012' - apparently my saga continues which i think is a good thing. I just got off the phone with Megan at MB who said that her system (the same one the dealers have) says that i am eligible for ELW...odd... So, Megan from MB is going to call Erin and try to get me taken care of.... i sure hope this is the case because before buying this car, i was already resigned to buying an ELW as a result my knowledge gained from lurking on MBW. Thank you all for your thoughts/help on this. I think at some point someone here said "it's amazing any work gets done in the world with all of us posting continuously"

Great that's good news. I don't really see why they would not give it to you, it is a good thing to have because as you know with these cars repairs like the air suspension or turbos can cost a fortune.

Hello, Dacey here with Autopom! We specialize in selling extended coverage to luxury vehicle owners. I hear your frustration. I've heard this complaint from several of my customers. The good news is that you don't have to purchase the coverage through MB, and often times the coverage is less expensive while you can still take it to your dealer for repairs. Your vehicle qualifies for coverage with our provider, Mercury Select who has a very good reputation in this industry with luxury vehicles (especially MB's!). Assuming your vehicle is a 2WD 2012 E63 AMG with 24k miles in CA I have a quote for our Platinum coverage 100,000 miles/5years with $100 deductible priced at $5,044. We also offer payment plans with no interest. If the quote assumptions are incorrect let me know and I'll be happy to get you a revised quote. Feel free to contact me if you are interested in obtaining more information. You can private message me or reach me by phone at (800)724-8141x8

Just to update - Megan from MB "corporate" called and left me a VM that they are not able to offer me an ELW. Megan said that she spoke with Erin at MB in Santa Rosa but they could not offer it to me. So very odd... i wonder if it depends upon the time of day or month that you call a dealer on these things. Dan Boone said he COULD offer me an ELWt but the price was outrageous (see prev post) but Erin says she can't. I just left a VM at my local dealer to see what they say. Sounds like i've got to get the tackle box out and go fishing for a deal better than Dan's. I'll update if i catch anything but good news is i still have almost 1/2 factory warranty remaining.

Sorry Ronin i missed that earlier. I found Jason on the Elmbrook website and will give him a call. My local dealer gave me the same line of crud today saying that i was ineligible because i bought from a non-MB dealer. Crossing fingers for Jason to come through for me.

OMG!! "$2650 for 7/75k on a new e63 s-model" is an awesome price. While I got a good price on my 2014 e63 s-model (7% of MSRP), it looks like I was hosed on the ELW. I paid $5400 for 7/75 and $2800 for PPM. That takes a little blush off what I thought was a great negotiation on my part.
