Since it's now AWD,the front spindle is totally new since there's a driveshaft going through it. It looks like this may have also pushed outward radially the attachment points to the control arms and tie rod. Just look at the front wheel in any pics and you can espy a shiny cover plate that covers those points. 18 would definitely be a tight fit.

Finally grabbed a cpl of pics. The car was covered in a light frost this AM. It was in the low 70's two days ago, and then last night we dipped below 20F.
This is why I did not want to go with a true snow tire. If I had Hakka R's on the car, they truly would have melted. These Pirelli Sotto II's took the heat really well. No visible signs of wear. I'm impressed by the performance of these tires in cold and warm driving. The drop-off in grip is maybe only a step below the stock Conti's.
Still no signs of snow in the near term, but plenty of very low overnight temps.
As posted in another thread... These are 19" CLS factory take-offs. Got them for a song on ebay. Had them powdercoated and then I plasti-dipped the centers to match. Now that they're on the car, the style is growing on me. I didn't chose them for looks, but I think they're alright.

In the second pic I posted, you can see how tight the clearance is between the guard behind the rotor and the wheel. That's a 19X8.5 cast OE wheel from another model.

19X8.5 all around? I'm thinking of ordering a set of wheels that are 19X8.5...just looking for confirmation before I place the order.

Disaster!
Uggg.. went to put my Bremmer Kraft BR09s on today and they fronts don't fit! The problem is that the stock rims are pretty flat, but the BR09s have an inset lip that is hitting the dust/stone guard that sits behind the disc. That thing is HUGE! and it barely fits the stock rim. Only a couple of mm to spare. Now i'm going to have to go through the hassle of freighting them back. At least tirerack is going to take them back and give me full credit. Now i've got to start my search over
For the record these are 19x8.5"s all around. I don't see how an 18" wheel would fit at all, and now i'm going to have to look for a wheel that is essentially flat, or go with something that someone else has already tried successfully.
Attached you can see the original rim, the BR09, and the huge guard that is causing my fitment issues.

Sorry to hear that! Looking at that guard I don't think there is any way that 18s will fit.
I decided to run my OEM rims with winter tires due to fear of experiencing what you have here... the car is just too new for the cheap winter wheel makers to be up to speed on what will fit.

Dude, SO SORRY to hear this. That sucks but I am glad tirerack is letting you return them. I can vouch that the TSW Panorama wheels fit without issue.
Good luck.
Good luck.

I'm starting to be worried! Just reveived my SLS replicas today. I measured the minimal diameter to 17 inches.
Rhuskter if it's not too much to ask could you measure the minimal inner diameter before returning the wheels?
I wonder why they engineered the shield like that... Never saw that on another car...

Ok so I measured all the inner diameters of the wheels I just got (pictures included). It seems the inner wall is a cone with max diameter at the inner aspect of wheel and the minimal diameter flush with the bolt plate.
If someone who has stock wheels not mounted on a car could take similar pictures it could be a great way to compare stock rims vs all the aftermarket wheels we guys already bought and confirm fitment... or no fit!
Here are my Wheel pics:

i'm out of town till monday. I'll be able to measure probably on tuesday, but from your piccy's i think your in good shape. Those inner edge of those rims look nice and flat. I might need to get the exact name/brand of those as i'm running out of options now and winter is pretty much upon us!

Dont know if it's a mistake but just found exact same model in 9.0 width, which could be a super compromise as it is same as stock front wheels and only 0.5 less than stock rears...

Possible winter wheels for E63S
Hello All,
I'm anxiously waiting delivery of my E63S wagon, hopefully late January. I have been looking for appropriate winter wheels and tires and came across these on MB Canada's website. It looks like they should fit well (offsets close to standard wheels) and give the option of both straight and staggered fitment. The dealer recommended another CLS 63 rim but at 10 inch rear, interference may be an issue and straight tire setup less than ideal.
Any comments or suggestions? I am committed to buying my wheels from the dealer so I am not looking aftermarket.
Thanks and regards to all.
Wayne
