2014 E63 S
So I (finally) got to take the car out for a long highway trip in good weather, low traffic, summer tires etc. Up until now I've had the car on winter tires or the road conditions have been less than ideal. some more of my personal observations:

- you can't have sport mode on at the same time as cruise control.

- distronic (or whatever alerts you that the car in front of you is braking quickly). Is a great feature. It's alerted me twice when I wasn't paying enough attention.

- warm weather really wakes this car up. Everything just seems sharper than in the cold. No real surprise there I guess.

- so much torque down low. I was in comfort mode + eco the other day at a red light. Car was shut off. I was using my phone and didn't notice that the light had turned green. So I look up and realize I'm holding up traffic and floored it while the car was shut off. It starts up in second gear and does not shift down to 1st. Pulls hard in second and really puts you in your seat which is a cool feeling at low rpms.

- it gets great mileage if you nancy it around. My dad drove it on a 500km twisty road highway trip and averaged 9L/100km. I have also found it great around town with the start stop feature. I guess my frame of reference is a C63 so it's all relative, but I have been impressed.

- S mode is great on the highway. Gets you up in 7th gear when cruising but downshifts you very quickly to 3rd when you want to pull an epic pass ( which it is exceptional at. Several times I looked down and saw 220+ and scared myself a bit but it's a real thrill) I used to drive in M mode to get in the right gear and prime myself for the passing window but I found that the tranny does an excellent job of this, so I just put my foot in it instead. Around town where the gaps are smaller I do drive in M though.

- I am having a really hard time seeing where I would go from here. This is just such an accomplished car. The best all-rounder made I reckon. Very happy with my upgrade from the C and I'm glad I waited as long as I did. I can see myself putting a tonne of miles on then just hitting the repeat button on a new one.

Thanks for the photos chocofishez. I just saw your thread today and sorry if I'm repeating what's been mentioned before. But I'm so jealous that you guys up north have the power folding mirrors and 3 zone climate control features that we in the US don't get the luxury of choosing. Does the E63 come standard with the 3 zone climate in Canada?

Yes, 3 zone is standard on the E63 in Canada.

Yeah... great points... i don't know what I would get after this.. other than a refreshed E63 in the future... with the underrated hp/tq numbers already, I'd be more interested in the increase in creature comforts (folding mirrors, heating steering, blah blah) ..

but this car rules.

'14 E63S, '13 G550, '06 E320 cdi, and a bunch of other stuff.
And let's review that which isn't "standard" in Canada:

Multi Contour seat? Nope
Keyless Go? Nope
Ventilated seats? Nope
Power trunk opener/closer? Nope
Bluetooth phone? Nope

Lucky us. We get all that stuff as standard equipment.

so true...

in 1 year I've been through 4 new cars -- 2 E550's, the MDX, and an E63 -- and I've realized a valuable lesson -- there is no PERFECT car... but a car that comes pretty damn close.

We should cherish "pretty darn close" and move forward.

there's always "next year's model" to pine for....

Ace, if you don't care for the 3 zone, I'd be willing to swap all of my 2 zone parts with you + cash obviously.

It's just personal preference. You prefer more things standard/better pricing, I prefer more choices for the customer. Standard features are irrelevant to me because I order the car with what I want on it anyways. So when not given the opportunity to add certain things from the factory, even if my net price is lower than other regions, I have to go through the hassle of adding stuff in and thus jacking up the price after I take delivery anyways. I'd rather just get everything I want from the factory on this particular platform.

It's an E class. A mainstream, meat and potatoes car from Mercedes.

Aim for satisfying the 80% percentile prospective shopper.
