just got them today, went with the 295 30 in the rear, they are a bit bulgy, but thats ok....as long as they work well......and last as long as the Pzeros. (18000 miles)
so my stock wheels are actually made by BBS in germany....kinda nice to know that....
tire pressure....so america's tire cpu system wanted 42 in the front and 46 in the rear.
the gas cap cover has different number, i dont knw what to go with.....dunno if there is really a correct answer

I'm running the same setup. let me pull the pressure numbers i'm running tomorrow on the way in. I want to say 47-8 hot rear.
I agree they bulge a bit in the rear but they seem to handle great. You can feel a slight squirm till they bite. Not sure if that's tire squirm or if its the width of the tires.

when i first got my car i believe it was running around 41 front and back, i readjusted them to 37/41....
really not sure whats the criteria for fronts vs rears...which should be more or less.

PSS are awesome. Have 60k miles total on various sets. Sidewalls on Michelins softer, so bulge more, ride better, but don't move around a lot. Rolling diameter is identical to stock 285s. Praying the wagon has PZeros, otherwise I'll be stacking these by PDI area at dealer.
Use gas cap numbers. If you're like me and drive hard, set 'em for heavy load numbers, and use tire pyrometer to make sure temps equal across tire after hard drive. you can then screw with alignment and/or tire pressures to suit. Someone will probably ***** me out for this abbreviated instruction, YMMV, yadayada.
If you run empty vs loaded, try splitting diff between the empty and max load numbers. 4wd will change things, but you have 2wd IIRC.
Pressure depends on weight bias, handling, drive distribution. Tire rack has stuff on it. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=73
Owners manual as usual is useless. Use factory numbers to start and can fiddle 2-4# usually.
Rough rule of thumb is hot pressures 5# more than cool. Assuming tire temps in 100-120 deg range equally. N2 is nice if you can swing it, see less change in pressure with temps, but need tank for home use.

im sure your car will get pirellis, maybe contis....
rolling diameter is a scotche bigger, but pretty negligible in the whole picture

wow you finally now will get ultra amazing handling since you have a proper set of tires....... I kid slightly but currently my fave tire of all the cars Ive had (street tire) is the PSS (currently on my M6, 991, SL63 was on M5, 997.1TT, 997.2TT, etc). Yes they carry more sidewall girth but you are fine since you dont lower your cars or have aggressive offset non oem wheels. I actually the more square look of the PSS's- very aggressive and look awesome with a nice coat of Meguiars tire dressing too!!!!!
As for psi I agree with the other to use the gas cap non full weight pressures (cold). Dont ever use the tire manufacturer psi as the tire doesnt know which car its going on.

Yeah pretty excited to see what these bad boys can do. Just in time for no fly zone event. R u going? .
Hey. I lower my cars. Just not this one...yet. Jetta had neuspeeds, w126 Mercedes has h&rs.

u have another thing coming unless u drive ur car like a grandma. Im on my second set, first set lasted 10,000 miles and they were toast ! I never did a burn out or anything like that just aggressive driving. the PSS are a soft compound so they will lay a lot of rubber down to the pavement and wear fast. good thing they have a warranty

Yeah warrenyt may help. We will see. I probably milked the pirellis longer than I should have

I just go by the recommended psi on the door jam. Always measure the tire pressure when it's cold vs after it's warmed up. Add 1 psi per inch that you increased your wheels if they are no stock wheels.

good deal vdub, so you went with the stock 255's on the front? Does the back of the car look jacked up anymore. Let us know how the car drives, if it feels like it rides better and handles better, etc. I've still got at least another 6K miles left on my Conti's but I'm tempted to pull the plug on them and get the SS's, the Conti's have got progressively more noisy and are vibrating again at speeds over 75 mph, just balanced them around 4K miles ago, not about to waste the money to do it again, they just don't seem to hold their balance well, right after they are fine but then they start vibrating at highway speeds in time. I dunno, maybe they are flat spotting, the car does sit around a lot. I know the SS's don't flat spot very easily as they are such a soft compound.
yeah i kept the 255 in the front.
the car doesnt look higher at all, actually because the tire is bigger it seems to fill in the wheel well moreso....

How's the SS's working out Vdub? I'm torn between the SS or the 3's all weather ones. I'm gonna at least need new rears pretty soon, those rear tires on these cars don't last long

so far so good, after the week end at no fly zone event i cant give u an update

I've been in Florida about a month now, the Conti tires don't bother me as much here as the roads are fairly smooth, but they noisy and the vibrate a little over 75 mph. Had them balance a couple months ago, they were good for about a month and now vibrate once again. I'm getting anxious to get rid of these tires, it's a shame though because the fronts look probably less than half worn if that but the rears are I'd say 3/4 spent at this point. Maybe I'll just do the rear tires for now although I hate to mix the SS with the conti's, the car might handle funny, been there done that lol. Mixed Firestones with Goodyears on my truck and drove really weird in the corners.
heyyy..u told me not to do a mix tire set up...lol
get the pss, save the front conti's in case u ever need them for emergency or something....or sell them
mine still have 5/32..

Sarasota, ya, I know probably a bad idea mixing em, could get in trouble in a hard corner, that's all I need is to take this car into a telephone pole or something. I just hope the ride is a lot better with the SS tires because in R.I where I live summers it sure was bad on those pot hole scattered roads.

wow 18k miles on a set of tires!! I had the MPSSs on my E92 M3, loved them and they lasted over 9k miles which was a shock. I sold the car with them on it and they were still within good spec. Plan on putting them on my 63
Ride isn't going to be much different . These are all the same class of tire.
The pss are warrenteed for 30000 miles and I know Michelin doesn't expect these tires are going to be on low Hp cars. I expect at a minimum for them to match the pirellis.

You will tq wear them in no time if you blast your car like I do... I crushed my PSS's on the Bimmers and they dont have the tq that the SL has (664 stock but now 661 rwtq) or the E63's.Originally Posted by vdubpower

That's one reason I've thought about going with the A/S PS 3's, might hold up a little better, longer wear rating.
the pss is rated better than the conti or p0 if i recall correctly.....so assuming i drive as i did for the first two years, they should last as long
the only thing that will change my driving habits is if the so-cal freeways miraculously only allow me on the freeway ....
ill probably wear out the tires this weekend at NO FLy zone event anyways
vic, OE tune for the SL again? any dyno vids?

Who cares how fast they wear. Michelin pro-rates them based on mileage #, IIRC PSS is 30k. I got 14-15k out of PS3's (not A/S) on a 20k treadwear guarantee. Got rebate, and PSS were cheaper and better. PSS has 30k guarantee. They are wearing better, but I think they'll still lose money on me.
Worth every dime, and awesome in rain. Not for snow, but do nicely in cold. If the E has Conti's, they're coming off before delivery. I like PZeroes, have set on F-car, so I'll give chance, but PSS are pretty amazing. My zwei pfennig.

yep...warrenty should help out...plus they are rated better, and cheaper and the 295s fit fine...cant complain
just still playing around with tire pressures though....
