2010 E63 AMG Battery Location
Looking to buy new battery. My manual mentions a battery in the engine compartment but Autozone and Advanced Auto say they have replacement batteries that go in the trunk. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

Engine placement for battery is older E55 and newer CLK's,
Yours should be only in the trunk, get a good AGM battery like the factory, the E's are power hogs. I'm a huge fan of good batteries but why change out a 3 year old unit, was it drained dead? Or are you having issues, factory battery should get you 5 years at least unless the car sits for long periods or you live in Yellowknife -40C.

My 2010 E63 battery is in the engine compartment. It is on the passenger side, just in front of the fire wall behind the strut mount. There is a plastic black box covering it. If I remember right, there are some clips holding the box on that have to be removed. There is also a "jump start" ground and red positive connections right in front of the box.

, I stand corrected, I myself have the old E63 huge battery in the trunk.
Quick look on forum shows other with battery issues, here is one statement " I wanted the biggest battery I could fit. Our original batteries are one size smaller [Group 48], than what our battery tray was designed to hold [Group 49] . "

Be aware that on some 2010 models there are (2) batteries. The main and the aux battery. I know this as my aux battery was just replace by the dealer. MB eliminated the aux battery in the 2011+ model years. So be careful that you don't waste money on a main battery when you may actually have an aux battery problem which is a known issue. Things like doors not unlocking, key not being detected, Homelink not working/opening other garage doors, you know all the auxiliary stuff not working correctly. If you are having these problems it is the aux battery. No idea where it is and if you can get it 3rd party. Mine was covered under the factory warranty.

I thought that an additional 2nd battery was put in with the introduction of the M157 due to the frequent engine starting of the eco-mode.

Previous cars had lead-acid batteries.
Still only 1 battery, but just a much better one.
The factory AGM is still not as good as say an Odyssey, since Odyssey uses virgin lead, instead of recycled lead.

2nd battery in 2013 E63
My understanding is that start-stop cars get AGM type batteries from the factory to deal with the increased demands of start-stop.
