$3470 for a front brake job?

Hi guys - I am new here.

Recently I was interested in a 2011 E63, so I called the local MB dealer to inquire how much typically a brake job would cost. I was surprised at the cost: $3470 for only front rotors, pads, sensors and labor. Rear ones was for $1200.

Question is, is that how much you pay? Typically how often do you replace your pads and rotors? I know it depends on driving and lifestyle.

Secondly, are your cars covered under any scheduled maintaince plan?

Thank you

OMG. I sure hope it's possible to do pads and rotors ourselves. No way will I pay that.

I would check with a Independent place that specializes in MB's, I'm sure you would see quite a lower price than that. The Brakes do seem to hold up real well on these cars and I think as long as you were not a brake rider or real hard on them you may make it up to 100K miles. I was looking at my pads on my 2012 with 21K miles on it the other day when I was getting the tires replaced and they still look brand new.

Either you hack the depreciation by buying new, or you chew on the repairs / maintenance on these things by buying used. Either way, these cars cost!

The rings for the rotors are $1000 alone.

And this is the part that kills me about so-called "low dust pads." If the pads aren't wearing (producing dust) then that means the rotors are taking the abuse.

Pad material is a lot cheaper than rotor rings.

$0.02

From an online Merc Dealer:
- Front pads (w/o ceramic): $202
- Rear pads (w/o ceramic): $117
- Front rotor: $666/each X2 = $1300
- Pad sensor (front and back): $20
- Rear Rotor: 113 X 2 = $226

So... with new rotors & pads & sensors your looking at $1900 in parts.

That eyeballs about right.

The OP is saying the quote was $3500 for fronts only, or about +$2000 over the parts cost. I hope they're doing a flush for that price. And a caliper rebuild. And a bunch of other stuff, because it's not a day and a half job to do one axle's worth of brakes......

That brake job quote from the dealer is going to help keep that dealership looking as good as it is.. who else pays for that - lol?

Uhhh yah. What would you call them?

Two piece rotor, comprised of a hat and a ring.
