Chris Harris pits E63-S (RWD) against M6 Gran Coupe and Jaguar XFR-S

E63-S was deemed the best "road" car and had the best steering feel on both road and track.

It got destroyed by the M6 Gran Coupe in a drag race. Looks like the E63 slows down quite a bit without the 4MATIC.

Enjoy!

The view over his shoulder on the twisty bit is awesome. He reaches for a location on the wheel and I'm thinking "no not there", but it's because I have no idea where the wheel is turned just by looking at it. Well, and because I couldn't drive like that anyway.
Cool review.

Haha yeah I know what you mean.

Harris has some driving skills, that's for certain.

That or why not a CLS63-S with 4MATIC?

As Chris Harris said at the end, more fodder for arguing on the internet.

Would not have been fair if 4matic was used... M5 and m6 seems to put the power down more efficiently. What size tires are they running stock?

Impressive for the M6 to be pulling that hard on the E63S. Proves again that it is seriously underrated and has the superior transmission. Thanks for sharing.

No AWD E or CLS in England. They only get RWD.

Rears on M6 are 295 20's with Michelin PSS

Rears on E63 285 19's with Either Contis or Pirellis.

The DCT makes a big difference especially the faster they are going. Much faster shifts, no loss of boost and supposedly less drive train loss.

The M6 Gran Coupe is a stunner for sure. And you're most welcome.

That's absolutely correct.

I've just seen Chris out hooning with the AWD/4MATIC Mercedes-Benz AMG variants before so I figured he could get his hands on just about anything he wanted if he asked.

But I suppose he was trying to test the cars on equal footing, if you will.

I agree, he could probably get it if he really wanted it. That video you are referring to with him in the AWD version was from launch possibly in Spain if I remember correctly.

I'm I the only one that thinks the E lost due to wheel spin?

There is an M6 Gran Coupe that lives near me with an aftermarket exhaust. It looks and sounds sick.

4Matic would have helped the E63 in the drag race, but it would have had an even worse review on the road.

Chris Harris drove both the 4Matic and NON back to back and preferred the NON

Start at 5:15 for the E63...but watch the whole thing to see the GT3

A couple of counterpoints here; Chris Harris is a drifter at heart - look at all these road tests - it not about driving around a racetrack properly, and technically - it's all about the "hooligans" as he says it - and that's the only real point about the 2 wheel drive version he likes - he actually mentions the awd version being the ultimate weapon, and everyone else who has tested and compared have not missed any handling characteristics of the 2wd version, except the burn outs, and power overslides. The awd version is absolutely faster in all conditions - including a dry racetrack - I'm all about ultimate performance, but could care less about which car drifts best.
I'm a BMW guy at heart - have owned and raced M3's for over 10yrs - I like the M5 & M6 a lot - and actually prefer BMW's normally over MB's - but I certainly wasn't gonna buy one of them over the E63 to go "drifting" around a racetrack - IMO, the only real shortcoming the e63 has vs the M cars is the transmission and navigation - and of course looks is subjective -

I think the point that you're missing, is that Hooning isn't just drifting. Hooning is the whole excitement factor. 4MATIC adds some sterility to the whole E63 experience, which in some cases numbs the experience. The whole reason the M6 Grand Sport is so appealing to him is the quickness, but also the excitement. If it was all wheel drive, his reviewing might be closer to that of an RS7.
