Road & Track conducted a "super sedan" showdown with the BMW M5 Competition Package, Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG-S (4MATIC), Audi RS7, Jaguar XFR-S, and Porsche Panamera Turbo.

The M5 (0-60 in 3.8 seconds; 1/4 mile in 12.0 @ 122.3 mph) just edged out the E63 (0-60 in 3.2 seconds; 1/4 mile in 11.5 @ 123.1) by 2 points.

The M5 and E63 finished 1 and 2, respectively.

Some amazing acceleration numbers for heavy luxury sedans. Hell, the E63-S is 6 tenths away from being 10-second car, stock.

Results and numbers are available at the bottom of the review.

Well the third one does, and that's where the first two came from.

They were supposed to link to PDF files.

Didn't intentionally post bad links. I know it takes a lot of effort, but you could've easily found them by clicking on the review itself.

lost 2.5 of the styling to M5
BMW DCT is much better than the AMG's transmission.....
did they mix up the cars?

Haha. Unfortunately, the BMW DCT is pretty damn good.

The MCT is getting a little long in the tooth. It's just not as responsive in M mode.

The third link didn't work either lol

It gave me an error message saying "nothing found" something alone those lines.

Any how I read it now. I realize that other day in Motortrend review CLS63-S time was

3.6 seconds or slower. Being almost identical cars , I wonder what slow that down compared to E63

Damn thanks for letting me know.

That always happens when I post links here. I even edited my post and provided fresh links. And it still didn't work.

Edit: I just checked the link and it's working fine for my browser (Chrome). What browser are you using?

Shocking that they rated the E63 tyranny the best of the bunch, when it's really the weak point of the car. Makes me really question their results, unless the trannies in those others really suck!

So true that the E63 excels in predictability. Driving it in the snow in ESP Sport is a hoot, and feels totally safe due to the balance and predictability. Glad to see R&T appreciated this quality.

By saying the trans is the best they aren't necessarily saying its the strongest. Just that they appreciated it's performance.

pretty sure they mixed up the tranny scores between the E and M in the results table... from every other reviews they say the E trans is the weak link compared to BMW, why would it be so drastically different?

I've seen reviews where they like the tranny in the E63 for regular daily use. The automatic is smoother and easier to live with than the DCT if you aren't driving enthusiastically, which to be honest is how these cars are driven most of the time.

I'd still prefer a DCT though...

i bet, that if u put an M5 with its fancy smancy dct and an E63 with its "horrible" mct, on a track , with everything else being the same, they would probably run extremely similar lap times
