Thumbs down Panorama roof weight

I was just doing some research on how much weight does panorama roof really add on our cars and found that its somewhere around 220LBs
That is really a big number and hate myself for taking the car with it... I would easily be in 10s if I didn't have it

I debated on getting this option too for the same reason, but my research suggested the added weight was much less than 220lbs, so I went ahead and got the pano. Not sure where you found 220, but the actual extra weight is only 40-80lbs.

Yep, it's a heavy beast. Had one car with it, never again. Some after a while start to squeak and rattle. I would imagine there's more body flex than the regular sunroof and it starts to work loose over time.

I think it depends on the model. The C class if I recall is ~150 lbs. That includes not just the glass, but other supporting structures like additional bracing, motors to operate the double sunshade, etc.

I saw on other mbworld sections that some people were quoting amg websites that it adds as much as 110 kg on e class with motors and supports etc...

There was a lot of speculation and estimates based on pano car weigh-ins vs MB listed weights, but the Private Lounge Team confirmed that "Pano roof adds 40 Kilo's or 88 pounds to the weight of the car".

See post #34 in Mo's thread below:

It seems that pano helps for resale?

You'd be surprised how much some things weigh. Take soft close doors for example. One of the engineers was talking about them and said they add 90 lbs to an SL.

If you really cared about weight you wouldn't have bought an E63...

Lux is part of the car's charm. Roll back the pano and let the light shine in! Don't forget to turn on the seat massage!

What drives me crazy is that the pano roof came on my C63 BS. For a car theoretically designed for light track duty its absurd that its standard.

FF. W212 E63 M156 non-pano 18" P2 ParkT NightV (gone but will be missed).
Pano probably helps resale to most people except to me. Soft close adds 90lbs?...That is just insane and I don't see the need for that.

Just one more reason to despise the Pano roof. Another reason: it sits so far rearward that (unless you're super tall) it's not even over your head. And the flimsy screen doesn't absorb any noise, making the car louder. And on and on...

Still irritated that we wagon owners couldn't opt out of that idiocy.
