Oil burning

I am getting prompted to add my second litre of oil since I purchased the car. I have 13500km on it now.

Anyone else with similar mileage had to add this much oil?

I'm tempted to do the first service ahead of schedule.

I only have 4,500 km on mine and have not had to add a drop. I'm not sure what typical MB oil consumption is as I've come over from the BMW world, but 2 litres in 13,500 km does not seem excessive to me. I know that several of my BMWs would gobble considerably more oil.

Yes, after my service A at 7000mi I added 1 qt at around 14,000 miles then I had the service B done at 20,000mi and I am expecting the message to pop up anytime for another quart. I do run her very hard and you have alot less miles though.

I would get your service done early, Although the recommended mileage is such and we use 100% synthetic Mobil 1 I try to change it out every 5 to 7 k

Turbo cars tend to have more blow-by.

Real question is, hard or soft break-in?

I didn't follow 'protocol' the whole way... but was definitely easy on it for the first 800km or so. I have run it hard since then... but it's an AMG.

My car uses a quart every 3000 miles (5000k) or so.

It was broken in extremely gently by an 80+ yr old man. The transmission even had to be reset at 18k miles so that it would behave more agressively when I received it.

Turbo engines typically have slightly more piston-cylinder clearance, but it usually results in a little more blow-by at higher boosts.

The folks in Affalterbach (the people that put their name and their logo on the car) provide guidelines for how they want the car to be driven early on.

Why oh why would they do that?

Hmmm.

A whole lot of CYA I would imagine. But if it was that important they'd take us out of the equation and have the rev limiter set lower until the mileage was reached, limit maximum throttle through the ECU etc.

I was a good boy for the early kms... and for most of the break in period.

burning 1qt of oil per 5kish miles is pretty typical for turbo cars.
