2014 E63S Wagon with 9K miles needs new from differential
Took the car in because of whining sound and a weird RPM shift issue. The car felt like it was not shifting correctly. SA tells me car needs new front differential and software update. Needless to say - I am not pleased. Any other differential failures on 14's on the board?

You're the first reported
You owned the car new from the factory? Did all the maintenance?
Never mind I see you custom ordered it
All covered under warranty I presume?

how long will it take to fix?
Maybe you can swing something like a warranty bump from MBUSA out of this

I'm actually more curious about the SW update.
Hardware fails all the time. There are probably a couple thousand AWD E63's on the road in North America already, so this isn't some sort of widespread issue. And yes, this is a small forum, but we all know that the first thing people do is search the internet and post when they have an issue with the car.
(Right now, there are 380 New/Used 2014-15 units FS on carsdotcom, so I'm guessing they've delivered many multiples of that figure since they first rolled off the boat 16 months ago)

I wonder if this will be like previous threads of this nature:
unusual problem with the 2k14+ E63, OP rarely posts and never comes back with any conclusions or final outcomes or detailed explanation of the pertinent findings when the techs fully inspected the car
essentially what we're left with is an apparently frustrated owner with an unusual/uncommon problem with a vague description of the experience problem and final fix

Yes, I remember there was a post not too long ago about the front end being all messed up with no real clear description and it turned out to be nothing and the poster who was new disappeared. Makes one wonder if it's somebody who has a thing against MB or something? These cars are very well built and tested and very rarely have problems as described above. If this is legit, post a copy of the work order with you're name and address blacked out, otherwise your not going to find many people here who are going to believe you.

Tough crowd
Had E55 wagon - sold it
NT mean "no text"
I do not have the car back - but the SA says it is fixed. They are now replacing the front passenger wheel bearings. There was a clicking sound - almost like cards in spoke sound every once in awhile. I believe someone else here also had them replaced.
I am miffed about the diffy and this mirrors my first 6 months with the E55. Tailgate opener/closer broke the first day. Multiple other issues early on.
I have requested to speak with the MB Rep. We will see where that goes - goodwill warranty extension is the likely result. That what they did on the E55.
Keep you posted.

Thanks for the feedback. I do also recall hearing about someone having a "torn up front axle" but they never came back to post more about it.
I hear you on the frustrations man, hope you get your car back soon and MBUSA makes this right for you, so to date on this 2014 E63 wagon:
- bad front differential
- needed updated software (that may or may not have lead to differential problem?)
- bad front passenger bearing
After how many miles did you start experiencing the clicking in the passenger side of the car?
After how many miles did you experience the 'symptoms' that lead to the diagnosis of the bad front differential?
Has your dealership seen anything like this in other E63's?
Cheers

Something just sounds off with this posting. As far as maintainence on the front diff, practically none unlike the rear end. There is nowhere's near the amount of torque that goes to front end, it lives a easy life compared to the rear ends. Normally they are very reliable. The problems this o/p describes sounds more like a Cadillac than a MB, just does not sound right. Most of us here will not believe this until we see a copy of the warrantee receipt as proof.

UPDATE ON 2014 E63S
First - 2012MERCAMG - Don't be a *****. Why you would think I would come on here and make stuff up is beyond me. I have better things to do with my time.
Second - I got the car back. Here is what was done (from the dealer report/invoice)
1) Replaced right front wheel bearing and steering wheel knuckle
2) Installed new software and coded control unit
3) Replaced front axel gear
4) Replaced left and right outer tie rods - threaded ball joints bent during removal.
Car seems fine. I have opened a case file with MBUSA and the dealer is working with me to engage the local rep. I will keep you posted.

Transfer case is not the front axle. All of the OP's failures were on the axle, except the steering knuckle.

UPDATE - MBUSA EXTENDED WARRANTY 1 YEAR/75K miles
SA called and said MBUSA will extend the warranty on the entire car 1 year/75K miles. That seems fair enough.

Well done, congrats!! I think that's fair as well, that's about $1000 cash value give or take
