Upgrade Turbos and/or downpipes...Who has them?
I'm seriously considering pulling the trigger on turbos and downpipes for my 14' CLS63, but haven't found much info from people that have them. I currently have the AMS tune and the car is so fun to drive, but it's leaving me wanting MORE. AMS is obviously a very reputable company and I have had zero issues with their tune. But they are in Chicago and I'm in So Cal, and I would like to hear from anyone that has done these upgrades and what their experience/opinions/feedback is with their car and the company they purchased them from. I spoke to Weistec today and they were very nice and helpful and local to me. I would have to ship my car to AMS and back if I went that route. I see some huge differences in prices between companies. For example:
Turbo kits $8495 (Weistec) to $11,999 (RennTech and AMS)
Downpipes/Exhaust $1950 (MBH) to $5995 (Weistec)
Any feedback from those that have either of these upgrades would be greatly appreciated.
thank you!
Downpipes are going to be an excellent next step without dropping the motor for a turbo upgrade.
I have no intention of doing this modification because it indisputably shortens engine and drivetrain life.
At this point I am leaning towards AMS or Weistec. I used AMS parts on my GT-R and had a great experience. The tune I have now is AMS and I'm very impressed and happy with it. I was initially leaning towards AMS because I already paid $2999 for the tune and was hoping that could get applied towards the turbo tune. But I want the car dyno tuned if I do the downpipes and/or turbos, not an "off the shelf" tune.
Tal, don't you have to drop the motor to do the downpipes? That is what Weistec told me. I figured if the motor is out I would do the turbos, too. Do you do dyno tuning at your facility in SD? I'm definitely interested in speaking with you tomorrow.
Been talking to Weistec and waiting to clarify some HP numbers from them. Still waiting. Also, their downpipes and exhaust is $5995 which is substantially more than the others and seems pretty ridiculous.
I'm ready to turn this thing into a MONSTER!
thanks again!

Kleemann downpipes without the bridge pipes you can just bolt on, takes about an hour.
Give me a call if you want to discuss any further. We have a Mustang AWD dyno in house and could work directly with AMS or Weistec for tuning if we are more conveniently located for you
