Pre-facelift grill shenanigans.
I think Im getting closer, but what a long trip it's been.
First, stock:
Good lord that's a lot of chrome for the front of a 550hp super-car. Really. I'm not Idi Amin, and this isnt a 1979 450 SEL 6.9 (I had one, it was fun, but this is not that.)
So I wanted the chrome tinted, but not murdered out. I'm too old for murdered out and it's 2015.
So I had it tinted. The problem turned out to be that tint had to have a certain concentration of color or the black doesnt mix well and "clumps". Then in order to get the right tint, it had to have a pretty thin coat on it. A thin coat of paint on chrome, well, just doesn't last. It started chipping up and coming off.
So now a 55tech sports grill. I've seen lots of pictures of the grills they sell, but its back to the chrome thing or its murdered out black. I needed a tasteful alternative, so I ordered from them a black sports grill with a chrome star (the star it comes with is from a 168-chassis ML). I then wrapped the star in Oracal tinted wrap. Its really tough stuff and would stand up to any washing or bugs or rocks, etc. The problem, I think, is that its too dark. Depending on the light, it looks much too black. I've ordered some lighter tint wrap and I'll probably re-wrap it in Lamin-X "tint" color for that metal look rather than black or gun-metal. Anyways, here's the current "too dark"-
I've done a lot of other things to modernize the look, so ask away if something strikes you.

looks awesome!!! I also got the 55Tech grille, but went with the chrome/black. I think it looks ok with my Iridium Silver car.
Just out of curiosity, which flat badge did you use? The one that 55Tech sold didn't fit as well as I'd like with the hood crease. I ended up with the W212 facelift badge, which fit quite a bit better.
