Going from Corvette to 2010 E63

The transmission will not down shift to next gear until revs and speed are low enough. That may have been it.

This wasn't that. It wouldn't let me get into second from third no matter what I did at the speed we were going which makes perfect sense. It was like if I was in 7th and rapidly clicked the downshift paddle, I noticed I woud have to click twice sometimes to drop a gear. Can you click the paddles too fast?

I admit I may have gotten a bit defensive as everytime over the years that I have visited a BMW forum it usually ends up with a lot of elitist people paying way too much for things. At any rate, I did research on the brakes and those front rotors definately are more expensive then I'd like. I noticed you can by the rings from the Racing brake place, but I wonder by the time you'd need them if they'd still have them or be in business. How often would you need rotors anyway? I needed them in my Corvette but that was only because I literally was riding metal to metal before I changed the brakes. Are these rotors really changed that often? From what I understand from reading, the m156 engine can be changed from the bottom or done through the dipstick. Oil evacuators are 50 bucks through 100 dollars for nice ones, I'm not sure what tools you are talking about that are very expensive? As for the transmission fluid, I was trying to read about that and seemed to find that its supposed to be good for the life of the car, is this incorrect? How often would I need to change that? I believe at least the car I'm looking at doesn't have the limited slip, so the rear end should be okay I believe. While on the subject of the costs, I assume this thing is supposed to be run on premium gas, what happens if its run on regular gas? I always used to run premium for years and years and when gas prices shot up I started using regular. Even went back to premium in the vette for a time but noticed no difference so saved the money. Tires still break loose just fine with regular.

I think the price looks good. I purchased mine this past October with 54k on it and paid 43,000 plus fees and taxes. I shopped a lot (like for 4 months) and found many over 50k. Is the warranty a Mercedes factory ext. warranty? Does it have keyless Go, Pano Roof, parking assist and night vision? If so I think you may have found a pretty good deal if they give you enough for trade etc.

You may can get a Factory Mercedes extended warranty since its under 50k miles. You may want to check with a Mercedes dealer, they will need the VIN to give you an answer and the dealer can give you a complete printout of all services that Mercedes has records for. I could not purchases a Mercedes warranty due to being over 50k miles.

yes, I think you are correct. However the Mercedes warranty is much more reputable than any after market warranty. Its a tough choice. I guess it depends on the company that the warranty is from, such as how long in business, how many complaints or satisfied customer comments may be online, how many states they operate in, are they flexible as to where the car can be fixed, do they have maximum payouts, can it be cancelled if you are not happy? Just some questions to consider. I purchased a warranty through Carchex and I am still not sure if I made the right choice. No claims yet, so I don't know.

I dropped $7,000 on MB's 7/100k last year. That's 7 years from first service date and 100,000 total miles on car, not additional.
The price took a huge hike in September 2013. MB realized <$6000 > $2000 wasn't enough coverage on their end. They were losing money. So they restructured their Extended Warranty. AMG's being on their highest tier.
However, even after the price hike, I bought the warranty. Because I know if anything major does happen to my car they will fix it without messing me around. You're paying for the quality of parts, workmanship, and a loaner as well. There also isn't a deductible on it.
3rd party warranties are sketchy. It says it all over every car forum. You win some, you lose a lot. They take forever to approve your warranty work, then you have to pay a deductible and even risk that they won't cover the whole job. It's just too much of a hassle.
Who I recommend getting the warranty from? Well, Mark Eggleston with Georgetown MB in Georgetown, TX gave me the best quote. Some places quoted me $8,000 he was $1000 cheaper.
Then they also have Erin, from Santa Rosa, California MB, who has also done many members warranties on here.
PM if you need phone numbers.

On a car from the north check thoroughly for rust under car and in engine compartment down low. I had to walk away from a couple of E63 cars from New Jersey after I inspected close and found rust on underside and corrosion on wheels from not having the road salt stuff washed off.

According to car fax, it was a lease from California, just happens to be at Illinois dealer. Been there for a year it appears and 800 miles or so.

It's indeed worrisome to get 3rd party warranties. I have thought about Fidelity but now I'm keeping my factory extended warranty especially after the MB's price hike in September. Another approach to 3rd party warranties is to simply get what your local dealer sells provided you don't relocate frequently.
Yes, it's best to avoid cars from areas with road salt. It's great you found a car from Cali. Cars from FL and CA tend to be in excellent condition. Back then, I drove my trade-in from Chicago area to go pick up a car from the south, in AL. During that trip, I was planning to head down to Ft. Myers if it didn't work out in AL. Anyway, it's gonna be a fun drive from IL to FL.

Ditto on a good find regarding the Cal. car. The one I found was a NC car that was traded in for a Corvette at Rick Hendricks Chevy in Atlanta. I was after a South TX car back in October but it was sold too quick.

When I went to pick up the car, I just slept on the back seat at rest stops. I figures I wouldn't be able to sleep on a nice leather surface in a hotel anyway. Plus I needed to bond with the car. If the weather is mild, it's nice to do so. Sure wouldn't want to do that during the summer's sweltering heat.

Thats what I'm reading, most states seem to ban overnights and a number seem to say more than 3 hours. Usually the cheap motels are not places where I"d want to leave my car alone so I'll see if I can make it work.
Sleeping at the rest stops are not allowed anymore?! Truckers do that all the time.

Don't know on brakes. Tires will need to be replaced soon though. The tires most likely had about 11 or 12 mm when new. And tires on the AMG last about 10,000 to 15,000 miles depending on how you drive and type/brand of tire.

I had 2 vettes (C4 and C5) and currently drive a CLS63.
Bottom line I am probably going back to C7Z06 as I can't justify spending $50K more on an AMG-GTS that has more than 100hp less. I miss the "sports car" feel.
Unless you really have to have 4 doors, the AMGs sedans are great sedans and at least equal the straight line speed of the vette but can't compete with the lightness and sportier sensations.
How about a new C63 or M3? I had one of each and felt they were the closest to the vette but more refined than the vette interior wise.
