I posted a thread where I tested all 3, straight pipes vs X-pipe vs H-pipe. Long story short, an x-pipe in place of the resonator lost low end tq and was quieter than stock. Small H-pipe in place of the resonator is best.

I replaced my resonators with straight pipes and an H. The tone didn't change at all, it’s just a tad louder. Nothing in your face, but you’d notice if you put two cars side by side. Interior noise didnt change at all and zero drone.
Straight pipes without the H on the other hand, this puppy screams. I had it for a day, but you need the balance between the two banks. Exhaust pulses in such a way that you feel the movement through the car. But it does sound LOUD and raspy!
Just got my resonators removed, replaced with straight pipes. Car is 20% louder, and I think I may have lost anywhere from 2-5% of low end torque, nothing crazy, probably have not lost any torque at all and it's just my paranoia. I've attached some pictures and videos as to what mine looks like. I have a w218 cls63.

My wagon had them, they are straight through perforated pipe.
