Why is tuning a mercedes so lame!! Rant..
Maybe it's just because this is my first AMG car( always been an audi guy)
Well today I sent a buddy who just got a new RS7 to a tuner I always used... to get the new APR tune flashed... Yes flashed (no drilling no uninstalling ECU and sending, basically no detection from dealer either) with APR's latest tune for the RS7.
Not only is it flashed in like 20 minutes but it's bluetooth and connects to an app on your phone that not only does diagnostics but switches From 91 octane to 100 octane along with valet mode and a theft mode all with a swipe of the iPhone on the fly. Now that's what I call a tune.
Just saying why can't our cars be flash loaded threw the OBDII port? And why the need to tamper with the ECU box itself.
Otherwise I'm stuck with the plug and play guys selling a moderate tune that requires plugging into boost sensors etc and having it visible under the hood for any experienced dealer tech to discover.
Please tuners STEP UP YOUR GAMES!
3k is not cheep for a tune atleast make it worth my wild with bluetooth connectivity to my iPhone and octane switching on the fly from in the cabin.
Anyone know of such a tune please advise me. I'm in Cali and there's really no option for me.
I know you all make the car go faster but there's more to it then that. These are high dollar cars and I certainly don't want to loose the support of my dealer over a few extra ponies the car was meant for anyway!
By the way I have a 212 E63 wagon. Biturbo. It's ready for Downpipes and a tune especially after driving the RS7 after the flash. It's now in beast mode and I only drive in 91 octane mode. I can't wait till he throws 100 in there!!!

2019 E63 S
I feel your pain. I was without my E63 S for 5 days due to having the take out the ECU and ship it to Renntech in Florida and then back to NY. Fed ex screwed up the shipment which stretched out the time. Ridiculous. My Porsche 991 TTS, by contrast, was port flashed with the GIAC stage 2 in under an hour at Detailing Dynamics. Also, unfortunately that tune has no iPhone app to change the tuning program either.

Perhaps MB has invested more into defending themselves from bogus warranty claims than some of the other manufacturers.
Why *shouldn't* they want, and be able, to detect when the systems which control the powertrain have been tampered with? The engine and tranny are the largest cost items in the car. Especially in an AMG.
If you (the consumer) want to play, you should be prepared to pay.

All tunes are detectable. Piggyback tunes are detectable visually. New ECU file can only be detected if you compare the check sums on the original vs. tuner file. MB uses very strong encryption on their ECU files and a lot of the tuning work happens by manipulating HEX values in the file. Not for somebody that just knows cars. You need to know computers well.
Not sure about the M157 ECUs yet but the older ECUs once unlocked, can be programmed via OBD2. Hopefully over time we get that capability coupled with something like MyGenius and Euro-Flash. For Audi troubleshooting you can even get Ross-Tech while for MB you need a full blown STAR DAS.

That's a load of bull! Audi is not stupid nor are they
Naive !
Audi and the Volkswagen brand have been being chipped and tuned for some time. They have spent plenty to combats tuned cars and warranty claims. let's not get carried away here!

I used to love giac until the blew up a few cars!
I'm sure they got it all good now lol However the iPhone thing is just so frikin cool! I think I've had every RS car audi ever put out here in the states untill 2013 and this is the first time I've heard of something this cool. I've had REVO tunes apr tunes and I thought the switch in the cruise control stick was cool and
REVO had a hand held device that would plug into the obd port. I still have that device for the last RS4 I had. this just tops it! In California LA specific has many gas stations with 100 octane. I run it in all my bikes. 91 really sucks out here it's nice to have the option of easily switching the tune to better gas. It actually achieved HP numbers that where intended rather then pulling all the Timmy out for the detection of bad octane.

That's always been the problem with Mercs. Just come to the W211 section and see the problems we face because of Mercedes' stupid locked software. It's literally holding the car back from achieving all it can. Nobody has been brave enough to attempt the standalone route either because then keeping the ESP and cruise control and other luxuries would be difficult.

I do feel your pain, unfortunately the Platform MB has built means that OBD flashes are not possible, even if you could flash via OBD like the VAG cars it is still detectable.
That said if you are running 100 ron fuel we see gains of over 100BHP with our plug and play kit.. yes its detectable if left in but not if you unplug it for a yearly dealer visit.
Give it a go.. we offer a 14 day money back guarantee if you are not satisfied !
