any ideas as to what went wrong with my car today?

any ideas as to what went wrong with my car today?
I was driving home from work today and the car started to smell funny on the inside. I thought it was just smells from outside, but the smell is still there, its making me kind of light headed and my son says it smells like permanent marker. Aside from that, when I downshift especially in sport plus, its very high pitched and there are rattling sounds. When accelerating as well, its also much more high pitched than normal. Any ideas?
EDIT: I also got the warning that distronic and presafe are unavailable, but they went away when I stopped at a light and restarted the car so not sure if they are related.

Why not go to the dealership? You get a free loner, your car returned washed and detailed free and with 100.00 deductible warranty where is the cost, unless its something not covered under warranty. I like my dealer, they always give me great service on my cars at reasonable prices and often send me freebie offers in the mail.

I know the dealer said everything was ok and I am only commenting on the interior smell issue since it happen to mine E350. Check your interior cabine filter. It might need a change.
