2015 E63 AMG Humiliates C7 Corvette at the Drag Strip

Here we have a new C7 Corvette going head to head against a new Mercedes E63-S AMG at the drag strip. Now the Corvette is lighter, but the Mercedes has AWD and more horsepower.

I wouldn't feel that happy if I was that Benz driver
What I don't understand is why does the timing board on the corvettes side light up first and then the E63. It gives the impression that Corvette reached first and there was some electronic error by which E 63 won ???

When you're racing for ET, the clock doesn't start until you break the beam. So technically, the Benz could have given him the 1/8, made is pass and still won.
But the humiliation here, is on both drivers. Those are awful runs.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
Put them on a road track and see what happens:

The lightly optioned C07 Stingray (~$65k) whomps the E63-S (~$109K) by almost 7 seconds around VIR.
The Vette is truly a remarkable car for the money.
So much for "break-in" time. I'd hate to pick that one up in the 2nd hand market.
Since when is the Vette "the best America has to offer" at a drag strip? Are you guys attempting to troll or do you not know cars beyond MB's very well?
A $60k Hellcat would drag that e63 down the track, without awd.
Car isn't new it's pre-owned 2014, temp tag from dealer.
I certainly wasn't texting, that was my son in the PASSENGER seat, in the staging lanes...
First time out trying different launch techniques. This was footbreaking in S+ with TC on. Engine straight dies when doing that. Thus the really slow start and the 12 second time slip.... Sadly only got 3 complete runs and 1 abandoned I think.
I truly agree the headline was ridiculous. Sadly the pass filmed was the worst run of the night.
Car ran a couple 11 sec passes that night with best of 11.87 @120.49.
Temps were 78-81* with 76% DA was 1655'to 1576' that evening.
You guys can carry on with your silly comments now. Feel free to post YOUR performances at the track. I'm sure most CLAIM there cars run 11.6-11.7 since they read it in C&D or a forum someplace.

Well, this guy is going pretty fast, stock. Not a magazine. Also, there are a bunch of guys on here that are going 11:60's and 70's stock with time slips to back it up.. Keep practicing. https://mbworld.org/forums/w212-amg/...lion-tune.html

Not sure why you had traction on for a 4matic but it makes sense I guess now your 12+ second run ... Was your son passenger during the run?
Robbierob you kinda backed up my point, your reading about it, get out there and show us how it's done. :-) The run you posted was in what we call mineshaft air. DA ~-300', that's record setting weather there my friend. Great pass and hat's off the the man who ran it.
I had TC on because I'm a bonehead LOL. I rushed up to the line and forgot to turn it off. I didn't imagine it would have such a great effect. It really surprised me because the thing just dead hooks, not even a chirp. Didn't realize it also kicks in when footbreaking the car hard.
No my son wasn't along for the ride. I don't believe it is allowed.
I'll get back out to the track and get a quicker run in, hopefully I can leave it stock long enough!
Eric
