Did the resonator delete on my 2011 E63
I know a lot of people with the non-turbo E63 are on the fence about resonator deletes. The reason I did it was I thought the exhaust was too quiet for an AMG. My overall impression of it is very positive. It now sounds like an AMG should. I didnt do an X or H pipe, I just did 2 straight. I know the stock has an H-pipe in it. I saw a post where someone tried all 3 and decided on the straight pipe as well for the sound profile.
Start-up is slightly louder, maybe 20%. Enough that you notice a difference.
Idle: No real difference. The only thing different is if you're standing behind the car you can tell it's definitely pushing out more air. I know it doesn't make sense but maybe it's more free flowing? In the car you cant tell.
Easy driving: not a big difference. Gear shifts are more pronounced with a bit of a "bark" on them but thats about it. Maybe 10% louder overall. Accelerating you can tell something is changed but thats about it.
Under power: huge difference. Easily 75% louder. Gear shifts are amazing with a loud "bark". Downshifts are addicting. It's so beautiful. It's not jackass loud, just loud enough that people near you can tell an AMG is in the vicinity.
Highway: no difference. People worry about drone and I can say there isnt any. I just gone back from doing 80 mph in 7th and sometimes 6th , no radio on, and there really is no difference.
I 100% recommend doing it if you want your AMG to be more pronounced. Especially those gear shifts...omg.

I've been on vacation so I havent been around my car to take a video.
No, I did not touch the cats. You dont need to.
I dont know the length of the pipe, probably around 24 inches. The diameter is 2.75".

@splix - it's almost a year out - do you still like the res delete? Just wondering if it's grown on you or worn on you after a year...

It's still the best thing I've ever done on the car. I just got back from driving to my parents whom are 5.5-6 hours away and I took the AMG. Even on long trips there is no drone while at 80 on the highway, yet it's loud enough to make the toll attendant jump when you lay it down after the arm goes up.

I have the same thing on mine, simply a resonator delete with straight pipes. I've been planning to replace my cats with an x or H but just haven't gotten around to it.
So it's been 6 months with just a resonator delete and I agree with your thoughts. It sounds great, love it.

Anybody know of any smog test issues with deleted resonator? Issues passing visual inspection and such? Especially living in Cali (smog *****).
Also, I have a Eurocharged custom tune (V5). Would I need an updated tune if I change the exhaust profile (back pressure change from res delete).
Btw, The Eurocharged tune already offers a very nice bark on down shifting. If that gets louder with res delete, look out!

Can't speak for Cali, but I highly doubt your usual how shmoe inspection would ever catch it. It still has 2 cats and mufflers. Mine was done with a tig, so it looks factory. You'd never know from a visual underneath. Forgot to take a pic though

Pipe size
Hi all,
I'm planning to do a resonator delete on my car and replace with 2 straight pipes:
Questions I have from the shop:
1- what size pipe is needed? width and length
2- will any bending be required?
I have a 2011 E63 AMG 6.2
Thank you!

3" pipes will be a good fit (i think they'll just slide over the oem pipes) and from what I remember, there aren't any bends. I'll check my stock pics and check.
