Suction cups on tint film

Hey guys,

Had my windows tinted a couple of weeks ago. Started to reatach my radar detector to the lower windshield and then thought, I better make sure it won't eff up the film. The film is applied to the inside of the windshield and I am thinking that the suction cups and vibration of the radar detector when mounted might make the film move, distort, wrinkle.

Anybody have experience with this scenario?

Thanks in advance.

V. You had your windshield tinted? I was told when I got mine done the windshield is already tinted?

Talk about having all the bases cover.

I would like to know this as well. I am getting my front windshield tinted soon when my tint guy is back in town. I already removed the ipass from the windshield and was wondering if i can mount the radar on the windshield using the suction cups after the timt.

I'm thinking about getting a 50% tint - what percentage tint did you go with? Any pics?

I went with ceramic 30% on all windows except pano and windshield.

Nothing on pano.

60% on windshield.

Car looks awesome. Post pics in the next day or two. The top of the line film I used cuts heat down by 53% and believe me, it is true! Noticeably cooler when getting in after being parked in 90degree mid day heat. The command control knob used to almost burn my fingers until AC was going for a while. Now, no problem at all.

Total cost was $600 and worth every penny!

Just need to know if I can attach my radar detector without effing it up.

And yes, I realize there are other ways of mounting it. I just prefer the suction cups for now.

Thanks for the info and looking forward to the pics.

I suspect it's ok to use the suction cups after the tint has been fully cured but hopefully someone with experience can chime in.

Yep.

I am thinking the same thing, and it is fully cured at 2 weeks. But want to make absolutely sure for obvious reasons.

Looking forward to input yet to come.

Cheers

2nd pic:

Still cant figure out how to post more than one pic at a time, or how to not have them as thumbnails.

Any how-to advice would be appreciated. Do I need some type of different paid membership or something?

Did you go to Manage Attachments under Attach Files and try to upload multiple pics and it didn't work?

Yep. Exactly. But for some reason, no matter how many pics I select, and then see thier little thumbnails as selected, when I post only 1 pic will show up.

And to make it worse, when I select a pic that gets dropped, it wont let me post it in a different reply.

System is jacked up.

That's strange, that should have worked.

If you don't mind, can you email me the front windshield pic at ryansin1@gmail.com?

Nice! I'm somewhat ambivalent about the dark look of tinting, but it'd be great to cut down on the heat. I know exactly what you mean about that command knob. Might have to look in to that...

UPDATE

I spoke to the tinter yesterday and he told me that after the film has fully cured, which happens within 5 days, you can treat exactly the same as the original windshield. I have now had radar detector on for a couple of days with the suction cups and everything seems normal!

Going to try and post a pic of the windshield from the front of the car. Hopefully this will work since I am only posting one pic and a pic that I have not tried in the past.

If no picture, then I will email it to the person that requested it.

Cheers Gentlemen.

I would bet that it will get messed up. The suction coup coupled with heat if left in the sun like most cars do would ruin it.. but this is just an opinion and not based on first hard experience.
If you can get the place that installed it to say its ok to do it in an email then sure go for it because it it gets ruined they should replace it

I am not worried about it. The guy has been in business for 30 years and gave me his word that it will be fine.

Not a big deal anyway as I had asked him before if I ever needed a windshield replacement how much would it cost to re-tint? He told me he had my back and would do it for only $100.

Plus this guy was referred to me by another VP where I work that has had 5 cars done by him.
