What made you choose E63 over Panamera Turbo , RS7 or M5?
Hello,
Other than the price - what made you come this route?
I may or may not be looking for a car was wanting to hear your
opinions? I drive an 04 E55 AMG and knock on wood - zero complaints -even gas mileage is good lol
but if you had 100-200k cash - wouldn't you like to go in an uncharted territory of a car that handles good and is good in quarter mile too ?
Now we got AWD but in past we didn't .
and oh 2016 March 2nd Gen Porsche Panamera coming out
Opinions ?

E63S - great looks and awd and performance stats and it's a Benz, acquisition price much less compared to other cars
Porsche - fuuuugly
M5 - no awd, no go for me in Midwest (Chicago)
Rs7 - overpriced and Audi reliability and don't "feel" the looks of a four door coupe... Same reason I didn't get cls63S
Good luck

Porsche - lol to be honest - I really don't mind the looks whatsoever. Performance wise Porsche isn't behind AMG especially the Turbo model or am I missing something?

My experience with Audi and the pulse from people that I know who have had Audi suggests in a non-scientific way that they are less reliable than Mercedes. That being said this may once again be in contrast to your opinion, you did ask for peoples opinions.

I like the fit, finish, styling and power of the e63. To me, it's somewhat understated and can still be classified as a "sleeper."
The Porsche is a monstrosity and I'm a Porsche fan. You could have made an uglier car but you'd need a think tank of MIT professors to figure out exactly HOW.
The M5 isn't as powerful and the absolutely horrid, video game (not even mic'ed like the caddy and other cars) sound effects being piped in to the cockpit was a deal breaker, 100%.
The Audi I don't like the looks of and not enough bang for the buck for me.

I always have looked at the ultimate performance sedans to be either the M5 or the E AMG. However, I stopped liking the exterior of the BMW M5 after the E39 body style changed. This really wasn't a problem because the very next year the E W211 body style came out and I just thought it was so much better looking than the M5. When I test drove them the E 63 it was also larger vehicle than the M5 and I have 2 kids in high school so the space was much better. My wife has a 2013 BMW 5 series and the my E Class is much more spacious. I'm 6'4" and my E63 is the first car that I've ever had that I can drive comfortably and not have to move the seat all the way back. For me the head room in the Panamera isn't high enough and I must be one of the few people that thinks the Audi looks ugly.
Yet in the end, I am old school and still believe that the ultimate performance sedan is a competition between the M5 and E AMG. Audi, Panamera, CTS-V etc....may be great cars but they aren't for me. I'm the same way about bikes... Folks tell me that Triumphs are great bikes but they would never replace my Harley. Guess I'm just nostalgic.

Short thread hi-jack, what if the Triumph is older than the Harley?

Honestly. If you are asking which cars owners on a W212 E63 forum, most likely you will get a consistent answer. I went from a M3 to M6 and now the E63 and S65 and will never look back.
Audi was never in my vocabulary and 2 door Porsches is all I would consider, but that wouldn't happen until my daughter ( 8 now ) is driving on her own and the wife and I can have weekend mini vacation time by ourselves.
I'm sure you will get different reviews from Audi and Porsche forums though.

M5 and Audi are too feminine I feel. Once you have driven AMG's and feel the torque and sound, the other two just seem cute to me.
Panamera is an abortion IMO, could never look at that in my drive way and be happy.
To each his own, just think about it and decide whats right for you, then go buy the AMG.

I swapped from a 2014 RS7 to a 2016 E63 S 4matic.
The audi was a very nice car. The feature I miss the most was the automatic door closer. The RS7 was really enjoyable to drive, and had gobs of torque for a 4L motor. The sound was also intoxicating.
I switched to the merc cause I was bored of the RS and there was an issue with the heat that the dealer was unable to fix. I was doing donuts in the snow once in the audi, and managed to blow out the blower motor. I was really disappointed in the audi when it did this. As a Canadian, doing donuts in the snow is a regular pastime in the winter.
I'm quite happy with my e63, and now with a remote starter and catless downpipes its just about the perfect machine. Gonna wait for my first oil change or summer to do the ECU tune.
I was considering a 911 turbo S for a while, but porsche wants way too much for too little. I drove a 997.2 and wasn't at all impressed.

Easy, wanted a ridiculous wagon: CTS-V is getting long in the tooth & the back seat is a little tight. RS4/6 not available in the US or it would have been a very tough decision!
(BTW, this is my 1st MB after 5 Bimmers, two of which were M's)

M5 - wasn't interested. Massage seats not real. Drove great though, loved HUD. Not as brutal as E63. Felt big inside. Piped exhaust was lame. No pano, or is my memory off?
Rs7 - price, period. Lack of ac seats was weak but I could have gotten over that. Simply not worth the money, no way is it that much of a premium over the E.
Panamera - price, would always kick myself that it wasn't worth the premium, would be thinking about the E.

Same as Peter, but for me it really came down to RS7 vs E63S.
After test driving the 2, my giggle meeter was much higher in the E with more brutish power and sound. On the practical side, better headroom for backseat, and much more under the floor storage space in the trunk. I did not want my small carry-on stuff, like windshield washer jug, emergency, winter and cleaning kits to be flying around in the trunk in plain sight in the RS7. For the same money I was able to order the E63S with Carbon Ceramik brakes and Designo interior. Also for bragging rights and performance modding, having a 5.5L engine is better than 4.0L.

Safety is 1st for me. So after combing through large amount of datas numbers on iihs, nhtsa, and various continents' ncap programs, E class is the one for me.

M5 or E63S (RWD) drove them back to back before deciding. Previous car was the E39 M5.
F10 M5 had no soul, fake exhaust, and didn't look like a brutal beast of a car.
The E63S, whilst about 20K dearer, won all those comparos hands down.

I'm still not sure what looks uglier - Porsche Panamera or Nissan Juke.
BMW M5 - I've had enough with BMWs for now (lately had a horrific experience with F15 M50d). And the exhaust note is just meh; car doesn't feel beastly special.
Audi - I'd rather take RS6 over RS7, but the fact that it's AWD would make it very boring for me.
E63S RWD (yeap, those of us with RHD are still lucky to have those) - this car deliveres emotions on another level, and that's all I need from a car lately - no tech gismos or luxury can outweigh that. Only thing I really miss on the Merc sometimes is the HUD from the bimmer - especially on higher speeds.

I looked at Audi S6 and I drove Audis for 12 years before that and I liked it but E63 was more powerful, liked the handling better and E63 had inflatable seat bolsters. Yes I liked them that much, LOL.
M5 - no AWD - as such - no go (I live in New England).
Cadillac CTS-V - again, no AWD, no go. I actually like the new CTS-V quite a bit. Handles extremely well IMHO.
Porsche - don't like the design, dealership is extremely far.
Also considered Tesla P85D and liked it, but the interior is too cheap for the price they are asking. For me the final choice was between Tesla and E63 and E63 felt like more car for similar money.
