Valve cover gasket oil leak m156 engine
On my 2011 E63 the left side valve cover (driver's side here in the U.S.) started leaking small amounts of oil dripping on to the exhaust causing burnt oil smell and smoke. Dealer is doing the repair and it is covered through my Carchex extended warranty. And I have a loaner while my E63 is in for the repair. So I am not stressed about it, but I am concerned about the long term reliability of the car. It only has 63,000 miles on it. My 2011 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 V8 ,with all the bells and whistles, has 176,000 miles on it and has never required anything but maintenance.

Let me start with the typical responses:
"The M156 is a sophisticated engine that will require a lot more maintenance than a typical Hyundai engine. You should expect this for the high performance you get"
Completely ignoring the fact that 500-520 BHP from a 6.2l is hardly that sophisticated.

I was not directing this at you, simply taking the winds out of the usual posts before they clutter your thread up.
To answer your question, it is not unusual for MB engines to have a leaky gasket before 100k miles
