Tuning an E550 to AMG type performance

I figured I'd answer your question here, since there's no mystery in it. You're calculating a 20% driveline loss when a 20% loss isn't present. Not sure why "tuner brand x" that you mentioned is sticking to that 20% number, but the real number on most of today's modern cars is 15% or, in some cases, even less.
Still, convincing people that the decades-old wisdom of "20% loss on converter cars" is still current is one of the ways some shops "fluff" their numbers. I always say: look at the time slip.

Thanks for posting.
Figuring a 15% loss on the stock E550 biturbo you tested, the baseline output of 419hp grew to 482hp and 473tq grew to 544tq?!

2014 E550 4MATIC TUNED - Turbo Upgraded Stage 3
Not at crank.
482 whp / 0.85 = 567HP at Crank
544 wtq / 0.85 = 640 TQ at Crank.
Correct me if i m wrong...
I have also got more info on the Mustang dyno that I did. (Their machine reads really low...)
From comparison, someone's stock FR-S was dyno'ed at 144whp (Stock crank @ 200hp)
That is 28% loss.
If we use same calculation on mine.
then, it will be
417WHP / 0.72 = 579HP at Crank
472WTQ / 0.72 = 655TQ at Crank
I once said, this numbers are too good to be true.
As for time slip
A member here, pretty much same mod as mine. He ran 1/4 mile with 12.2sec @115MHP

Dynojet Dyno Graph http://dragtimes.com/2012-Mercedes-B...phs-28007.html
All these are just a reference, Time slip, track timing are the real deal.

Mustang Dynos while very accurate at reading delta changes are also notorious for fudging numbers. One will read low, the other will read higher than a typical dynojet. All depends on the calibration the operator does. Keep that in mind.
Also I may be missing something but the link you provided showed a dyno of 476rwhp/539rwtq on TonyCPA's E550. I don't see how 482/544 is too good to be true? sounds like either a bit more power or typical dyno variations

Tuning 2014 Mercedes E550 4matic
I have a 2014 Mercedes E550 with the twin turbo 4.6L V8. I have about 75,000 miles and I drive almost 35,000 miles per year. I was wondering if anyone knew about the reliability of tuning my car? I have heard different things, but would love to tune it but worry about reliability. Also, is there any other thing I need to do if I tune it (exhaust, intake, transmission)? Your input if much appreciated!!

Ya, just trying to figure out which tuner company to pay.
Did you upgrade the heat exchanger? Do these engines have issues getting heat soaked with tunes?
I ask because one tuner I talked to recommended a bigger heat exchanger to minimize dampening power, but I am not finding much information about it online.

Heat exchanger for sure will help. But it is not necessary for just a tune from the shelves.

Hi everyone. I am in the process of modding my 2012 e550 ... just ordered down pipes and in the process of choosing a tune(will probably be going with eurocharged) but just like a person above me mentioned, I don’t know what else should be of my concern, that needs to be upgraded. or will I be ok with just the tune and down pipes?

EC tune and (catless)downpipes will net you 12.0 timeslips...ask me how I know! lol
Drivetrain is plenty strong enough. I run 11.3 @ 122 now, shooting for 10's by years end.

well I’ve gone down the track and have done 12.5 and that was with a bad launch , so I’m sure I’ll see better numbers than 12.0 lol

So what's the deal? I say there is no way a stock E550 4matic sedan will run a 12.5
Best you(or anyone else) will get out of a stock car is 12.8 Car and Driver
If your car is "stock" and ran a 12.5, it ALREADY has a tune...or you're not being truthful...
On a Eurocharged tune and a muffler delete I was running a 12.4-12.5, and I have MANY time slips to prove that.
