Tuning an E550 to AMG type performance
I got to thinking about this since there is no E 63 Coupe, Cab. The E 550 Coupe is such a beautiful car, I wondered what the tuning potential of these are to achieve AMG like performance. I see tuning upgrades at Weistec that would point to a 500 + HP tune. Anybody here done such a thing before? Perhaps the lack of AMG underpinnings to the car would make it a little dicey.
Food for thought.

2017 AMG GTS
if its me, id do a tune only! The parts in the 550 cars arent meant to handle the power the the AMG's could handle. I had the same the thought with an S550 and a CLS550 and my sales guy told me that. Especially he said if its a 4matic, that awd system isnt meant to handle hardcore power. So id think a tune would be good but anything more could cause problems. thats my opinion, maybe theres someone on here who's done it though??

I disagree a bit with nstandford99 on this. Sure, the 550s aren't built using 100% the same stuff as the AMGs, but the question wasn't about making 900 HP on the 550, just getting it up to the AMG levels of performance- and, for that, the 7 speed and 4Matic drivetrain are well up to the task. We have a few S550s and even GLs making a tick over or under 500 WHP and there have been almost no issues thus far (and no durability issues), with many, many hard miles on them.

I will have to agree with Speedriven on this. Afterall the AMG themselves are in theory not be made to handle 750-800 RWTQ like tunes are giving them. Especially since they start out with ~480-520 RWTQ

That's just it, though- even at the 800+ lb-ft of torque some of these cars are seeing, it's the transmission's software (not hardware) that's pulling the plug on the fun. That's why you'll see a "brand x" car with a tune and downpipes run a 10.8, and a similar car with tune, intercooler upgrades, aftermarket turbos, and straight pipes run a 10.7.

I think that's the software-dictated torque limit, because we're seeing exactly that (540 lb-ft) to the tires on the 550s. I'll have to ask Marcin if that's the software limit, but yeah- zero issues on multiple cars at that figure. They're all fast as s*** and happy as clams.

2014 E550 4MATIC TUNED - Turbo Upgraded Stage 3
Oh yeah...trust me.
E550 transformation is so much fun!!
Mustang dyno'ed 93 Octane
417 whp, 472 wtq.
Still not even close to E63...
Anything else I can do to this e550 ? enlighten me please...

Maybe. What was your "before"? I'm not trying to start s*** here, just wanted to see where the disconnect was. When we use Buschur's AWD "heartbreaker" Mustang dyno in Ohio it's rarely off more than 5 or 6% (which, at these power levels, is like 25-30 WHP, not 80!).

You should definitely check it out, and look into a pump upgrade. We have them, RENNtech has them, I think Weistec has them (since you seem to have their stuff, already), so it seems like everyone has figured that out, already. A year ago it was till "new information". LOL!

In all seriousness, you might. Most of the 550 biturbos we've seen here have the old-style intercooler pump. It wasn't enough in the 55K cars, it's not enough in the V12s, and it is certainly not enough on these cars- even stock. Even worse, they can fail in a few different ways and not throw a code.

So, I just called the dyno place and figured.
They dyno'ed a 2012 C63 stock, number came out 326whp, 316wtq
Something weird with their dyno machine ?

Seems a bit low, even for a Mustang (allowing even a 10% difference). I wonder how they're setting their variables? In any event, somewhere around 350-360 is where I'd expect to see a bone-stock C63 ... but I haven't seen one of those in years! LOL!!

That said... You are looking at an E coupe which is basically the same as the C coupe so why not just get a C63 coupe - I used to own one of those too and it was a monster with 507 stock HP.
Edit: it looks like you already own a 507!! Why would you want to trade?!?

There is a lot of inconsistency, too, between Mustangs (depending on who you believe). The dynojets seem to be pretty consistent whether they're in Cali or Ohio or Florida, so we tend to use them as the numbers are more universal. If you get it on a dynojet, definitely let us know where you're at!
