2012 E63 Estate (P30)
Surprised a 458 (and myself)
Yesterday I ran across a beautiful, silver 458 Ferrari on my commute home (one of my favorite Ferraris to date - less the F40). I stayed back and watched him zip through traffic and somehow fate allowed me to line up alongside him at a stop light (about 60 meters before the entrance ramp to the interstate - clear road and safe to play). Since he was in the wrong lane, I knew he was going to try and jump ahead and merge over... Ferraris normally have the right of way.
Well, once the light turned, we both jumped on it and I easily distanced myself 2-3 car lengths by the entrance lane. I was shocked, but surely not as shocked as the Ferrari driver. I gave him a big thumbs up as we merged into the highway (at safe speeds) and he didn't even look over and smile. He might have just gone straight to the dealership for a diagnostic and a sad story about a blue Mercedes wagon that just spanked him. :p
This turned my commute into a 45 minute victory lap through traffic. Thank you car gods and AMG for building one hell of a wagon and giving me the chance to race a 458.

Awesome. Don't under estimate your E63, let other super cars do that.

I had a E63 and now 991 turbo s
there is no comparison from 0-60.
I consistently get under 3 sec all the time.
he is not in.....
He is trying to get you go all in and he can get the space he needed to cut into your lane....

I think he was referring to launching a RWD car, not AWD like a 911TT.

2014 E63S; AMS 100 octane ecu tune; edok tcu tune; BB intakes; dyno tuned
Best 0-60 was 3.3 or 3.4 by motortrend but I have yet to see that replicated ....

That's what makes certain cars like Fcars, Lambo's, etc so special. The whole package of sound and experience make them feel fast even when they are not.

I believe it's the depper exhaust tone that makes them sound so tough, but when its head to head time, they limp out. Lol.

Yes and no. Pure speed in a straight-line is one thing, but throw some corners into the equation and the F-car / Lambo / Maclaren / 911 will miles ahead of any E63.

No doubt the super cars handled better. Just by looking how low they sit out of the factory. I have drive my fair share of these super cars and know the lateral g are higher. Off the line, it's a shame they don't compare to what was paid.

2014 E63s amg 4matic, 2009 C63, 2006 E55 AMG , 2001.5 AUDI S4 stg 3+ w/meth
stock mclaren mp4 is even faster doing 1/4 in 10.27
ferrari 458 is a bit slower of the supercars, but it still runs 11.1 @126 stock, so still faster than e63 stock and on par with most tuned e63's

True that. Should of said is a shame most super cars or super cars category that are in the $200,000-300,000 bracket which cost more than twice of the E63 can loose to a E63.
not sure why you say they dont compare off the line, as a stock lambo huracan does 10.6 in the 1/4 mile... thats way faster then stock or tuned e63s.... also faster than AMS alpha 9 upgraded turbos car that ran best of 10.7

No disrespect to your E63 wagon (i love these wagons) but that guy was surely not giving it 100%.
Also are you 4matic? Which could give you a slight advantage over the RWD 458 from a stand still.

Having the fastest car isn't always an owner's concern. I'm sure the guy with the 458 could get a faster car, but there's more to a car than just speed. We are impressed with our cars performance, but there are other cars that could beat us just as bad (in the same price ranges).
With that said, I'd love to own a 458 some day.
