Mobil 1 5W-40 is a low SAPS oil that meets MB 229.51 which is their diesel oil specification. Oils meeting MB 229.51 can also be used in gasoline engines which is why dealers generally only stock the 5W-40. However, for optimum protection in a gasoline engine like the M157, a full SAPS oil that meets MB 229.5 like Mobil 1 0W-40 is preferable.

My favorite brand of oil on the M157 is the same as on non-M157--Mobil 1 synthetic.

I use M1 0W-40 in all my cars. When I jump into a M157 from a M156, it will also be M1 0W-40.

Based on my previous experience with Mobil-1 on my Turbo Porsche, I have used the Liqui-Moly oil which btw is MB approved and very happy.

Amazon.com: Liqui Moly 2332 Leichtlauf High Tech 5W-40 Engine Oil - 5 Liter: Automotive Amazon.com: Liqui Moly 2332 Leichtlauf High Tech 5W-40 Engine Oil - 5 Liter: Automotive

but oil is almost a religious discussion so this is based on my personal experience with a highly modded 996 Turbo, M1 tends to loose its sheering too quickly.

Good Luck

0W Mobil 1 used exclusively in my two Benzes and one Acura. Acura gets 0W20, the E250 0W30, and the E63 0W40.

Despite what most guys here will say, brand isn't all that important. If you're using a synthetic oil that meets the MB229.5 spec, you'll never be sorry as it will be a quality oil.
Use a 0 weight oil over a 5W, the 0 will provide better protection than the 5W in both extreme heat and cold.

Why not 0W-40 for all 3 vehicles?

Mobil 1 0-40, I have to add two quarts around 6-8 months into a service and she eats it. Been tested and head bolt tested and told that 2 quarts of burn off is normal. I do want to install a catch can, to see how much is blow by, but have been to lazy to do so. Do you guys think a CC is worth it?

Because of the car manufacturer's oil specs. One grade won't meet the various specs - and messing with the second number of the oil grade can be dangerous.

Now Amazon also has the same Walmart roll-back price at around $23 per 5 quarts.

Geez I didnt even know there were options, thought you had to use the Mobile 1 from the dealer. We have 3 AMGs at my company, and honestly they each burn about 1 qt of oil every 6 to 10 months. We always have a case in our office, we buy a case a year. My partners old 2007 CLS63 would burn through oil even faster than that, he did however beat the heck out of the car.

Try a little heartier oil if you dont want to burn 1-2 quarts between changes.

My vote..

Liqui Moly. Quieter and far less consumption in my 157.

For reference, attached is the current MB 223.2 which defines oil requirements for engine oils. M157 can only use MB 229.5 exclusively, and then 0W-40 or 5W-40 weights.
