I saw this used 2015 e63 amg, 13k miles, clean carfax, 70k price

Are there any known problems with 2015 e63? Carfax is clean but what kinds of expensive problems could I miss.

Some reviews say offleaseonly.com buys "subpar" cars at auction and sells them at a deep discount. Most other cars have accident histories but this e63 has a clean carfax.

Any advice about performing a 3rd party inspection prior to purchasing this car. Would there be any items on an inspection that would make you walk on this deal?

Yes get an inspection. The car could have bee run hard on track days. Also, if you have concern about the expense to maintain and repair the E63 then its not the car for you.

 

This car probably stickered for $101-104k as its missing some key options like 360 view and distronic. The fact that you're saving $35k could enough to assuage the concerns about pricey issues that may creep up over time. Maybe not

what type of problem in a used car would be a "walk away" issue for you? Everyone is different and has different risk tolerances

Service records could be a tell for some issues or if the owner burned through tires and brakes ... Like stone said... Hard track days

Could have an Ecu tune and that would void significant parts of the warranty ... Don't believe anyone that tells you otherwise, Tobias at amg said himself that amg does not support warranty on tuned amgs; a tune would only become evident in the case of a catastrophic problem and the subsequent warranty claim that will be denied... Several people on here lease and tune and don't care about long term issues as they are leasing

The owner could have done a ton of "race start" and that'll put wear and tear on the trans and drivetrain but it may not be evident up front. If the LSD oil change wasn't done at 2000 miles or so that'll put the warranty into some jeopardy ... Read about someone buying a used 63S and had huge warranty claim denied because previous owner didn't do LSD oil change at 2000 miles or so

Carfax seems to be losing or has already lost a lot of credibility as there are delays on reporting

Have Benz inspect it ... Could be a good buy

You may not be able to get an extended MB warrantee on this car either, I'd run the Vin numbers by a MB dealer to find out if it's eligible and maybe you can get a service history and car build sheet too if available.

It seems like a really good deal for the year and mileage. And that's what makes it so suspicious. If it is too good to be true, it probably is. You will need to do some serious homework on this car before you sign anything.

 

A lot of 2014 and 2015s are going for $65-$75k now, nothing new. Most of the used German cars for sale are post leased cars.
Dealers like the above simply do not mark these cars up as high as most do, in return however they do not put the car through certification like a CPO does (which usually involves visual inspections, tires and fluid changes).

Don't kid yourself, if you bought a 2015 and tried trading in today, you may not even get $65K for it today. Being a mostly online car dealer they sometimes do not even keep title or other papers on the lot, car belongs to someone else until sold. They can turn it around for 5k on the car for a quick profit. Market for a USED $50k+ family sedan is not big at all (hence the atrocious depreciation of these cars)

 

I like the color and the looks of the car, but I'd be leary of it's usage and maintenance from the previous owner, but if you can find some records and it all checks out, I'd say go for it, sounds like a good deal if the car is ok and still have a valid MB warrantee.

 

I believe tenorite is steel gray. Got a bottle of touch up paint and it says tenorite, but my car is steel gray.

 

I just realized the carfax says this car was previously a "rental"

What are your thoughts of buying a previous rental car of this caliber?

 

A rental was most likely NEVER broken in, and was most likely NEVER allowed to properly warm up and most likely driven hard

Imagine the guy that wants to RENT this car ...

I wouldn't, not even for this price ... It would have to be CPO from Benz with option of an elw warranty

 

With only 12k miles maintenance should be an issue. As for a rental I highly doubt young kids where renting this...... probably business executives. If it where near me I would go look at it tomorrow. The only e63s's near me now are 72-75k for 2014's. One has 27k which I really like for 72k and the other with less options with 15k miles is 76k. The 72k car is white with night package dual sunroof and rear DVD setup.

 

Business executives don't like to stomp on the gas in a 600hp car? They care to let the engine warm up? Why choose to rent an Amg of all the luxury cars you can choose...?

The lsd oil change is a big deal maintenance item, and at least one engine oil change. Also brakes and ties may be due for replacement depending on how aggressive it was driven.

I guess it's under warranty so no worries, right?

So there's something wrong with stomping on the gas? Do you not think the person that drives the car first for testing does not do this? LOL I know many of people that know nothing about breaking in a car and probably never read the owners manual and drive their cars like the stole them from day one without issues. I'm not saying this is good for the car and I wouldn't do it but 90% of the public now days are idiots. I guess if your that **** about break in you could buy a new one and loose 30k+ the first year of ownership.

 

The fact the car does not have Distronic would be a deal breaker for me.

 

The depreciated price seems to drop by 50% when the car is 3-4 years old. So, if you want to save even more cash look at a 13'-14'. It still has the factory warranty and you can still buy the extended without a penalty. IMHO.

 

You're choosing parts of my post to make your argument and ignoring others that speak against your argument. Driving hard on a cold engine is not good, yes. Driving a rental hard each time will decrease the life the the car, yes. A cpo car will offer more protection to the owner when something happens .. And Amg cars have expensive problems. It's because 90% of the public are idiots that I would walk past this car ... Sounds like this is the car for you though.

For a little more, my point is that I'd rather have a cpo car with a chance to buy an elw. Let's agree to disagree

 

careful with these guys..... I heard a horror story on an S8 they sold to a friend.... much of thier cars appear to be body work or stuff that were early take-backs or buyouts....

 

Thats kind of what I figured about this place. They do have good prices but I suspected they could have cars that might not be right for one reason or another. I notice on a lot of them they do disclose issues, others not so much.

 

Once again, we have guys on here justifying $30k-$50k in depreciation THAT WILL happen versus $15k in repair items that might happen 4-6 years down the line. Unbelievable.

 

Nothing wrong with accepting 30-50k depreciation, my money my problem. Without that there will be NO used cars on any lots, issues or not.
I find it rather funny and sometimes idiotic when people ***** at others because they bought a new vs used car citing depreciation, when said people depend on people buying new cars to even have used cars.

 

You can drop that on your depreciation if you want. Trust us, we appreciate it. Just there is that attitude that it is completely crazy to own one of these with unknown history and/or out of warranty. The largest expense to any car...even those expensive to fix, is depreciation. Depreciation is guaranteed.
